So we all know about the 27" Imac issues which to some are endless.
My question is, being in Sydney - Australia, is it time to buy yet ? are the bugs and problems fixed yet or are we still in a grey area ?

If i buy a i7 will there still be screen problems , noise issues, graphic issues and whatever else people have been discussing on macrumors ?

I suggest waiting a while yet. I just received a week 51 replacement machine for my week 49 (with yellow tinge and bright pixels) and it still has the yellow tinge, led bleed and also the odd flicker problem even after the "fix". BTW, I'm in Sydney too.

it`s still a safe buy , you get faulty ones replaced
but i would wait ....to february or may as it always takes a bit time to sort out the problems
back in the days wehn the mac`s had a bad capacitor issue it took apple over a year to aknowlege that there are problems with the capacitors and it took them nearly another year to do a extended repair thingy ..and you can still buy used ones which have still the bad caps inside

Still tons of new reports flowing in, the firmware fix they offered didn't work, and some people are being told on the 2nd or 3rd return of a defective machine that no more returns will be permitted. I would definitely hold off.

Mine gets condensation on the inside of the glass which dissapears after about 20 minutes.

Yesterday it was really sunny here and the sun was shining through the window. When it hit the iMac screen you can see lots of marks on the underside of the glass (see picture). It also has 4 dead pixels. :(

I only received it 4 days ago and its a week 50 machine.

I bought two. Both were perfect with no issues at all. One got messed on day 8 after I did the firmware graphics update (even though I had no issues - I just wanted to have all the updates). I got it replaced, and the third is perfectly fine as well. Didn't bother with the update on this one.

My first iMac order got changed to a w5773xxxx which is week 73 right?
I know for a fact mine will come problem free cause apple told me that the 2week wait plus my web order number was changed due to apple recalling a lot of them for a re build to eliminate all the issues, this was coming from a super visor, as I always ask to deal with them directly instead for anything!

Think about how many people would have bought the iMac and either not posted about their good iMac, or not a member or this site. I'm sure there would be a lot more than there are broken ones. You only read about bad experiences, hardly anyone makes topics about their iMac working.

I have a week 50 i7 with no problems as described on this forum. It has been running for about 15 hours.

It seems that people get problems after a week or two, so obviously there is still some guarded waiting to do. In the mean time, I am definitely enjoying my new iMac!

My C2D is fine. Go ahead. In all honesty your best bet if there are any is the refurb store...

Probably because they just don't really think there's a problem. If my local Apple Store had a SINGLE iMac that does not have the yellow tinge I would gladly make my purchase again, so would many of my friends actually. But hell no for a yellow screen. Week 41 iMacs (it seems according to people here) aside, none of them in the store have acceptable displays (that's 16 iMacs I am talking about).

Can someone verify this? Is this, week 3?

Unless you really need or want one, I'd wait till the next revision (probably in Summer/Fall). Right now the risk just isn't worth dropping that much cash.

Love my iMac, but the yellow tinge is there.

The iMac is a wonderful machine and offers great value, assuming the specs fit your needs. Don't waste your precious time worrying about possible defects.

I'm waiting for the next revision.

Many posters mention that the problems are few and our sample is skewed by the vocal minority. I'd agree except for the statistics on replacements AND posters who say they are waiting for their Mac and then complaining.

If it is only 1/100,000 issues, then the chance of someone posting they are waiting for their 1st/2nd/3rd, etc and THEN reporting the new/replacement is faulty would happen only 1/100,000 times. This is an ex ante sample -- not just a 'people who come to message boards b/c it is broken' sample.

People getting replacements or stating they are waiting for a new Mac and subsequently reporting faults are much greater than it should be. Clearly far fewer than 100k people are in this sample set and tons of them report problems.

Of course, maybe all these posters are Microsoft employees and fabricating the threads- doubt it.

It's not unsafe to buy an iMac, even if you are unfortunate to get one that needs sending back, you will receive new ones until you get one that is up to your standards.

I was lucky enough to get a week 47 that has run flawlessly, in the past, I have had Rev B products that have given me more problems than this iMac has so far.

FUD if I ever saw it...what is it with you people? If there's something wrong with the thing, Apple will replace it. God...

Remember, if something is wrong with a product people are way, way, WAY more likely to post and complain about it, as opposed to those who receive a good, perfectly working product. If you like the new iMacs, want one, have the money and all that, just go ahead and buy one. If you are unlucky it will get replaced, and hell, you might just be able to squeeze an upgrade like a larger HD or ram or CPU if it takes them awhile to fix it.

You got nothing to loose and a beautiful machine that I am assuming you want to lose.

Get it, post results.
