Upstate NY . Was FL.
Is anyone else getting upgrade anxiety in regards to quality control or display issues? My iPhone 12 PM and 13 PM all had quality issues out the box and had to be exchanged replaced two times each. For me it was frame damage( gouges) out the box or inconsistent screen quality. However the 14PM was relatively good and “a keeper” from the get go.

Not particularly, but I think AppleCare is a good idea in case that happens.

I've never had QC issues with an iPhone, but I have had them with a MacBook Pro, more than once. My current MacBook Pro has had issues with debris underneath the display since the beginning, and since I didn't get AppleCare, I've never done anything about it. I won't make the same mistake when I upgrade (but that likely won't be until next year at the earliest).

Since they let you return a brand new iPhone within 2 weeks for no reason at all, there shouldn’t be any worry. Don’t like it? Return it.
Very good point!

I am going to take the leap and pre-order the new titanium bronze/brown/rose gold or whatever new color 16 Pro.

If I don't like it, I'll exchange it within 2 weeks.

Or get a case that covers the color of the back & sides......

Back when the iPhone 5 launched there was a person on the MacRumors forum who went through about 15 phones. Buy, return. Another opened around 12-13 boxes in store before the Apple employees stopped them and made them make a choice.

That was Scuffgate, which was real, but in the greater scheme of things not altogether a dire QC issue.

I'm mentioning this because to me, it sounds like you're one of those people. The device has to be flawless according to your standards or Apple has failed in QC.

I'm not attacking you nor condemning you. Just making an observation. If I'm wrong, I apologize. But to make a thread about being concerned over what is essentially a tool, to me, speaks to that.

It’s always less risky to buy mid-cycle than on launch.

I’ve never had an issue with any iPhone I’ve owned. I had launch day 12PM, 14PM, and 15PM and no issues. I’ll hopefully have a launch day 16PM and I’m not worried.

I would be more concerned with the iPhone being stolen somewhere in the delivery chain. I had a Launch day XS MAX stolen in delivery as well as the launch day AirPods stolen. filling a police report is not what I would call a fun Friday night.

Why would you have anxiety if you can just return a bad phone back to Apple? I also haven't had any QC issues with any iPhones.

Never had any reason to return any of my Macs/iDevices . . . all have operated/performed as expected 🤷‍♂️

That being said, I foresee no reason to immediately upgrade my 13-mini.

If my Primary fails (or gets crunched by a bus), I have a direct replacement.

When the eventual Day comes that the minis fail to perform, well . . . I'm sure I'll *cough* just adapt ;)

I've never had an issue that required a return. And a lot of the things I've seen users here do repeated returns over are things I'd never even notice in the first place.
I've only had one iPhone model that ever gave me issues and that was the iPhone 5. Scuffgate aside (which I never returned my device for), my first issue was a blown mic. No one could hear me.

But issues 2, 3 and 4 were down to swelling batteries, a thing the iPhone 5 was prone to. My wife also had her iPhone 5 replaced due to a swelling battery.

About two years ago the issue cropped up again. But by this point, Apple support told me they wouldn't touch the 5.

So, discharge both phones to zero and let sit for a year or two in the garage. Swelling gone, both now working just fine. I don't use either very much so they don't get charged very much.

But yeah, that's the only model I ever had issues with.

No. And I have been doing this a lot longer than simply the iPhones. Get over your inappropriate anxiety.

If one gets a [uncommon] flawed device, just replace it. Easy-peasy.

I get upgrade excitement. I’ve never returned an iPhone or Apple product.
My iPhone 7 ran hot. When I handed it to the guy at Apple he replaced it without my having to ask.

For the price they dare to ask? 100%.
High grade metal and glass are expensive, so are high quality electronics. So, I expect to pay for that. Apple's builds are generally better than the rest though, so absent any immediately visible marks or damage I'm good.

There are far more expensive products out there in other industries that suffer from severe quality control issues and people accept them all the time. So it's interesting to me what hill people will choose to die on.

Never was and never will be anxious, as Apple always quickly and smoothly solved any issues I had.
