I know I've dropped this in a few places but it illustrates a point well here. Drop shadows are exactly what iOS needs. The dock I'm using below makes a huge difference too.

If the look of iOS bothers you so much, change it. There's absolutely zero excuse to complain and not jailbreak nowadays.

Despite the thread title, what the OP seems to be talking about is quite a ways off from simply different icons.

gaps between icons show the background image, which most people like to see. animated or "multi layer" icons would use more battery for a non-functional reason.

All I can say is thank goodness whoever created that theme does not work for Apple...

Just so you know, that's a perfectly correct grammatical sentence.

You can use "are" when you are emphasizing individual members of a group. In this case, members of the group (Apple).

https://public.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/group.html

Honestly, it's used quite frequently on this site and gets to be annoying. We're all talking about Apple as a company. As such, as one entity, Apple IS going to do something. You would not say "my friend Mike are going to the dentist today" or "General Motors are declaring bankruptcy." A couple dudes at Apple aren't gong to go rogue and "change up" the IOS icons. :) Most of what Apple does is as a company with one voice.

i agree about the UI being such a waste on the iPad. also i wish we could just place the icons wherever like leaving the first row empty for example. been wantibg this since the iPhone 3G days :D

guess people forgot the whole "OMG IOS 7 FLAT UGLY ICONS/UI A#H$#(*H(#*HT!!!?!!!" already & expect yet another change...(to follow the sheep herd leader & infuriate about cause their friend did it)

shadows, nice sure, but its obvious what will come out of it.

"my device is so slowwww"
"battery life suckkkk"
"apple intentionally nerfs older devices to make u upgrade BAWWW! i go android now"

Sorry but that doesn't look good in my opinion, the shadows need to be softer/more transparent. It looks really heavy and doesn't really match the rest of the system's design, but each to their own :p

I'm pro shadows but that image did not look good imo. iOS 6 actually had great shadows. They should be noticeable and at the same time not so much.

sorry, I used the word "theme" synonymously with jailbreak customization.

Because then my phone would look extremely amateur.
At the same time plenty of people think it looks extremely amateur when many useful design elements are removed, as has been the case since iOS 7.

Basic shadows wouldn't even come close to relating to any of those items.

wont stop people from blaming them (shadows)

based on the past of how people reacted to ios changes in general, & the yearly "ios X sucks/slow etc" complaining, id like to be wrong, ill take shadows over the 0.5% performance loss

isnt there a jailbreak tweak that adds this stuff already?

The 7Shaders tweak has customization options. That's one aspect that can be changed.

The point of the post was that these things that people are complaining about can be fixed by simple *FREE* options available on Cydia. Try not to focus so much on personal preference.
