Wow.

There are a lot of complaints about the quality of Macs around here. I can understand scratched cases, gouged screens, and broken keys... but skin oil smudges on black MacBooks, dust on matte screens, fingerprints on gloss screens, palm prints on palm rests?!!!

A single dead pixel on a 17" screen, "grainy" textures on a TTF display, a "warped" MBP screen that works fine but is 1/32" twisted?!!!

Just look at the complaints around here! There's more bitching here than me being eighth in a line full of check writers at my local Safeway store!

Are you (errrr... we) all NUTS?!

Just because I get a little panicky when someone else uses my Powerbook doesn't make me anal, does it?

Oh, it does, eh? Well, count me amongst them then.

Seeing fingerprints in my MB screen drives me nuts, completely nuts.

But I swear that I only clean my MB 5 times daily. Is this too much?:p
(the worst is that it is true:eek: ).

only us mac users would be thrilled to pay $15 for glorified windex to clean our computers. (spork shakes his iklear 15x15in chamios in disgust and cleans an imaginary dust mote off his 24in imac screen, for the third time since he began reading this thread).

Mac users are inherently arrogant, but I wouldn't say anal ;)

If you pay $2000 for a MacBook Pro... you don't want imperfections in your brand new machine.

That said, the $1099 entry-level MacBook is now a KILLER deal (especially at $999 w/ edu discount).

Unfortunately you can't use the down key on the MacBook without hitting it dead center all the time... so I had to stay Pro. That and the TERRIBLE viewing angle on the MacBook screen. Ugh.

After seeing some of the replies in this thread, I'm glad you've never seen my fingerprinted, scuffed and stained MBP!

when you have a machine worth 2600 euros ( lots of dollars also!) then you want it to be perfect. apple pride themselves on design, but if that design results in a case with gaps, that doesnt sit right, a lid that doesnt feel quite right when you close it then you have every right to be annoyed. this idea that "il settle whatever is given to me" is why companies are complacent in the face of quality control. most lifelong apple users ( or people using apple for a long time) will tell you quality has slipped, at least with the laptops. you are one of these people a sales person loves to see comming as you will take whatever muck they throw your way, give them your hard earned money, and when it doesnt seem quite up to scratch, you just shrug it off thinking thats the way it should be. the "anal" people keep companies on their toes so joe soap's like you will get a better product without even realising it.

I used to be really anal about keeping my Macbook clean; I seriously wouldn't let anyone else use it unless I was in the room with them (I still get annoyed at people who just poke the screen through). Then I kinda just lost the energy to fuss about it all the time.

Really, the main reason I want to keep the stuff I buy in half decent condition is because I want/need to retain the resale value. The different between a grubby looking and clean looking Macbook can be £100s.

Pshaw....

My PowerBook runs much faster after it's been wiped down with iKlear. :D

Wow. . .

I still think it is nuts that i bought a four year old Mac Mini from a kid and he still had the original box it was shipped in and the frickin stickers. I put the stickers on our cars and the stickers i got from other computers as well. The macbook i just bought . . . same thing. What is up with the boxes people? Why are there photo blogs dedicated to opening the box for the first time? I can only compare it to somebody filming there first time having sex. It almost seems that way.

Maybe it is because i do not plan on selling either of these but i may not keep the boxes for these any longer than i have to.

By the way I don't think this person has a chance to sell this macbook for the price they want in the condition it looks to be in do you?

They call it "Geek Porn" for a reason.

I guess so. Coming from the PC side where we loved to tear up a machine to mod it and make it "our own" it is so weird to see people on the other spectrum with shrines to their Macs ;) I think if people are going to show this stuff they should have a porn soundtrack in the background
