What's flawed about my argument? The only thing we still manufacture are cars and it's debatable if our cars are better than the Japanese. Everyone is so afraid of Amearica's decline but it's coming and it's inevitable.

We should be afraid of the decline of our schools when we can't even spell the name of our own country #

First they make General Tso's Chicken, then they make Pangu and Taig. Dem Chinese is on a roll.

Their manufacturing isn't limited by pesky things like, pollution control, minimum wage, employee insurance, employee rights, child labor laws, etc etc. It is ultra cheap to have everything manufactured there. Designs of most things begin in other places not just the US. Companies choose to have their stuff manufactured there because the labor rate is extremely cheap.

Good lord.

It's not racial—it's socioeconomic.

The Chinese jailbreaking teams are organized as companies—and they have a direct fiscal incentive to work that way because of the way app stores work in China. There's big money to be had getting alternative app stores on iOS.

American jailbreaking emerges from a hobbyist/hacker movement, and there are no actual teams—people are all lone wolves working on their own, in some cases sharing information with others.

This doesn't mean we won't see any more American jailbreaks—we have seen many times that one person can do a lot in this scene.

I feel like this is all pretty obvious. It's interesting to talk about the differences—but they have nothing to do with race and work ethic.

This is wonderfully worded. Well done.

One thing that I like about PANGU and TAIG is they have the confident to burn exploit without worrying that it will ran out, as soon as the new ios release by apple, it will be JB in a timely manner.

And guess who it behind PANGU/25PP

Here’s What Saurik Has To Say About TaiG iOS 8.1.1 Jailbreak

Just like our gilded age here. Companies want to relive old times.

Pretty sure its because DCMA prevents reverse engineering of code in the US, so many won't in fear of prosecution and lawsuits. China is the Wild West, good luck enforcing anything.

This. Both pangu and taiG contain exploits/code that could get americans stuck in court, good luck apple trying to extradite people over software.

Can't remember which american jailbreaker confirmed this, but it was shortly after the first release of pangu that they stated that it wouldn't have been able to have been done in america.

So no they aren't smarter, they can just disobey the law.

Everything in China is ahead of the West. Their currency, their infrastructure, their economic progress... everything coming out of China is surpassing the United States. Our over-regulated way of existing has put us in a distant third in the world economy, and falling further behind by the day.

Regulations have nothing to do with it. Outsourcing is due to pure greed. I'm sure you do not want the sweat shops and child labor that China has. But at some point China is going to realize that their workers need to enjoy the fruit of the companies profits and when that happens they'll be no different than the U.S. The only difference is China will still have the know how to build things. America lost its know how to build things once it began outsourcing.

We no longer have the know how to manufacture devices like tvs and phones in America. Apple does design the phone and are among the few premium companies we have left in America (Google, Microsoft, Exxon, etc). But if everything is designed and manufactured in China and India, why would we think that we are going to remain the best as an industrialized nation when we do not make anything anymore. Jailbreaking is a microcosm of the current trend among countries like China, Japan, and India. They do things better than Americans now.

I think it's food for thought on how we are falling behind other countries. Maybe if we had a global economic system built on cooperation instead of fostering competition then this would likely not be a topic for conversation.

As far as manufacturing products such as phones, tablets etc, one thing that will hinder chinese manufacturers is that their creative industries for design and UI are really not very good at all. They have realised this and are trying to address it though, we've just spent a week or so with chinese principals at our art college looking at how we teaching creative industries.

Of course you can say it wont have much of an effect because chinese phone manufacturers will use things like android, but creative thinking wrt to UI also extends to physical usage.

More than a third of all smartphones are sold in china, and companies like Xiaomi are outselling companies like apple and samsung.

So even though the OP makes swathing comparisons that "chinese jailbreakers are better than american ones". He does have a point that maybe the tide is turning with regards to smartphone manufacture, and maybe the chinese are well on their way to opening a can of whoop ass on the rest of the world, like they did with manufacturing.

The west funded they're infrastructure buy making the most of their cheap manufacturing, now they're going to serve what they're learnt back to west in pretty dramatic style imho.

We always seem to fall back on the age old argument that America is more creative. I think the Japanese and the Germans are doing just fine. Creativity can be found anywhere in the world. It's just better when you have the manufacturing prowess to do it.

We?! I'm not American :p

Actually I think in this instance the argument is a valid one, for a long long time China was strictly communist and only allowed traditional forms of art and art for the glorification of the state. It still struggles with contemporary art as displayed by its treatment of Ai Wei Wei.

That said art culture is now booming particularly in Shanghai, and with the interest in how to teach creative subjects I think it's fair to say that tide is very much turning.

You have to concede that a country that makes stuff is better off. Learning how to make new stuff requires intelligence and we are falling behind.

No, I don't have to concede that. Countries that make things and can't sell them are screwed. Countries that can't purchase what they need are screwed.

You started this thread comparing the intelligence of Chinese vs. American code writers, and now you're somehow trying to equate that intelligence to the ability to mass produce widgets.

When you can see your own tail, you should probably stop and take a breather.

You need to educate yourself on China. Outsourcing because of greed is a result of a climate of little or no regulation (go to Beijing or Shanghai and see the air quality, you'll see). When China realizes their people should enjoy the fruits of their labor, the jobs will be outsourced elsewhere in the world. China isn't the first player in this game. In the 80s everything was made in Taiwan, Vietnam and Malaysia, or Bangladesh. Then manufacturing moved to China when it became cheaper. When China becomes too expensive, those jobs will be moved to other places... Africa, South America, etc...

And don't blame the companies... blame YOURSELF. If an iPad was made in the US, it'd cost $4000. It's the demand that drives the movement of the production jobs to third world countries. Coupled with over-regulation in America. If you think otherwise, take a course in Globalization at your local community college.
