My iPad Pro 12.9 2017 is the apple device I use the most even though I own an iPhone X, MacBook Pro and a Apple TV. I wouldn’t say the iPad is “boring”. The iPad Pro is limited in functionality and features.
I bet you could get 20 hours of reading iBooks at low brightness with wifi off but that's not how most people use these things. For reading at low brightness, I've actually noticed pretty significant differences in onscreen time:
iPad 3: ~12 hours
iPad 4: ~15+ hours
iPad Air: ~12 hours
iPad Air 2: ~10 hours
iPad Pro 9.7: ~10 hours
iPad 5th gen (2017): ~15+ hours
One thing to note, Apple has actually put 10+ hours in the technical specifications for some of their iPads but they've never qualified what that + meant with an actual figure/number.
I think the boring part is you Op. you simply don’t have a use for an iPad, so sell it. Or put some time into finding great apps and discover how indispensable an iPad can be. I have two and do almost everything on them, work and play, don’t use my MBP much, and phone just as a phone.

Until we get phones that are 4:3 7.9" (hmm, 16:10 7" at the very least), I'd still want an iPad even if it's just for consumption.I guess if your only use is consuming media you might get bored and find yourself using your phone more..if you’re creating stuff it’s quite the reverse.
