But seriously, this iPad seems to target techies mostly.

By "techies" I believe you mean those consumers that aren't "power users" or particularly computer system literate, since that's where the iPad is pointed.

The ease of use UI factor and closed box system are pretty much clear signs that Apple wasn't planning on selling many of these units who spend their lives memorizing specs, overclocking, transplanting ram or drives.

I wouldn't think so - the iPad replicates much of the iPhone functionality on a larger screen, plus an ebook reader.

It certainly cannot replace an iPhone because it has no phone... And I see apps as a useful addition to my phone, I certainly wouldn't buy a device just to run them. Although thats just me, I guess thats what the iPod Touch has been doing for years - although the iPod is the killer app.

I meant 'techies' as in people who are obsessed with having the latest electronics. I'm sure more people who follow technology know what an iPad is over people who don't really follow tech.

I'm sure Apple is targeting people who are computer illiterate but it's ironic as those people would have to a main computer to sync with for iTunes. And if you function iTunes, you know your way around the basics of a computer.
