i hear they removed the headphone jack, and are in the process of removing all the physical buttons. so you have to pull it out of your pocket to control the music in any way?

what do you guys do about this? are you carrying a seperate music player or an older iphone to get around such problems? i don't have an iphone but i have been thinking of getting one, and these things concern me.

do they still use itunes for mp3/aac? i heard they may be killing itunes for something called apple music, a streaming service.

iTunes / Apple Music is one of Apple’s biggest money makers in terms of services. Rest assured, it’s still one of the best music platforms on the planet.

The headphone jack is not there anymore on iPhone but the lightning connector is - one to rule them all - port. It can take your headphones or your charging cables.

Also, there hasn’t been any solid rumour about the removal of all physical buttons on the devices.

does the adapter for headphone jacks yank out by itself? it looks very flimsy. -- as much as i like wireless earbuds the battery for them is a weakness, mine typically last a hour.

Nope it doesn’t come off that easily, unless you pull it out and it definitely is not flimsy.

AirPods have created a different class of truly wireless Bluetooth headphones. On one charge they last about 5 hours and the charging case they come with gives them another 4 charges. So that’s about 24 hours non stop listening. Plenty for me and many others. The AirPods themselves charge really fast as well from the charging case. 15 mins of charging gives you 3 hours of listening time.

i guess this just leaves the question of controlling the device when its in your pocket, is it possible?
to skip songs forward/back, play/pause, volume up/dn.

Without looking at the screen, when the device is in your pocket you can only control the volume using iPhone.

However, if you’re going to use the AirPods then just by taking one of the AirPods out of your ears you can pause / play your music and a double tap on the left and right AirPods will skip your track backward or forward. You can configure this behaviour within iPhone settings.

Well if you use the supplied wired lightning headphones you can use the controller to change the volume and skip and pause tracks.

If you have an Apple Watch you can control the audio playback on your iPhone without taking your phone out.

So, to sum up then, despite the lack of a headphone jack, the iPhone is still an excellent music player, that allows the user to control playback in any numbers of ways from the phone itself, the Apple Watch, or even various headphones, and provides for listening with a multitude wired or wireless headphones and other external devices, and has a good array of apps that allow for the user to subscribe to streaming services (e.g. Apple Music, Spotify), listen to personally owned streamed content (e.g. Plex) and also local content (e.g. LeechTunes).

So, no, the lack of a dedicated headphone port does not harm the listening experience one iota.

Yeah they've had this for years on the stock headphones, even since the iPhone 4 IIRC. Volume up/down can be controlled with the cable: skip forward/back a song is click twice or 3 times, play pause is click once. Siri is hold the click down until you hear the Siri sound. Airpods (wireless) have similar options with gestures.

yeah yeah, there were rumors that apple would put the jack back, ok mack? i don't care about the moon! i do care about having buttons though, i guess none of the iphones ever had dedicated buttons on the side. i thought they were on it once and got removed, apple keeps changing things...

So you do not want things to ever change?

The iPhone still has one of the best audio playback from any phone in the market, the lack of headphone jack won't is not really going to make the demise of iPhones when it comes to music. I either carry AirPods with me all the time or use the adapter that came in the box, the downside of it is that I can't charge the phone at the same time when listening to music.

The Inquirer? LOL!

I love my AirPods and use them almost every day.

I passed on the HomePod as I have a house full of Sonos speakers that I think sounds better.

Yes! I love change! It is why we have such great Apple hardware. Maybe you need to move to Android if you are hating Apple because the "may" remove all the buttons! LOL!

There were some actual meaningful rumors about that, or just wishful thinking on the part of some?

Sake of change for what reason? It was dumb for Apple to remove the Headphone jack. They want to say courage but it was for money reasons. Apple makes money hand over fist with the adapter because its fairly easy to lose and people are just going to keep spending the $9.99 for a new one for a thing that is mad cheap to make.

Obsolete trash? What rubbish. They are 100% fully functional in every conceivable way... Or you someone who thinks the iPhone X and 8+ is obsolete trash because they'll be superseded in a few months?

Lol the best time to buy iPhones is in the Spring/Summer. You don't have to worry about being up at 3AM EST/12AM PST to franticly pre order one and usually good deals on iPhones by the time Spring/Summer comes along. I got mine late spring and paying Sprint $20 per month for 18 months for lease and then paying the $250 to buy it off would make the phone $610 instead of $1,000.

Yes a nonprofit business makes money! Is that news?! I don’t get it. Why do people even talk about money?! Apple has never been a cheap brand anyway.

Apple non profit ?

Please I’m fine with Apple doing it idc but just don’t act like they are doing us a favor making this leap forward because of courage.

Sorry I meant a profit business.

And yes they do take the leap forward. If that wasn’t the case then every other manufacturer wouldn’t have followed suit. Why do every flagship android need to follow everything Apple does in terms of hardware?!

In fact not just that even in terms of macs they drove the industry forward. Slimline windows laptops with good enough processors has only been available since MacBook Air release.

Any hardware manufacturer will kill for the type of success Apple has had over the years. If any other company could define an industry they would. That’s just how the hardware manufacturing business work.

Sorry but I have had zero use for the headphone jack in many years. Just another place for debris or water to enter the phone.

I doubt Apple did this to make money on the adapter but doubt I could convince you of that. Sorry, just my opinion but have little use for a jack on my iPhone.
