I voted no to stealing.

What I find funny for myself, when I looked up how to jailbreak I had not even considered using it for piracy or that people used it for this. It was not until I started researching the topic that I read articles and posts about pirating and jailbreaking.

For me jailbreaking was for one purpose. I do not believe Apple has any authority to control how I use the iPhone. To me the iPhone is a hand held computer which you can also make calls with, in other words a much more advanced Newton which name they should have used again:cool:.

To me the forced app store on the iPhone/iPod Touch is tantamount to them doing the same in Mac OS X. I'm sure Mac sales would plummet if you could not just by a program from a store and insert a disc to install or purchase from any web site but instead had to buy all through iTunes. With Apple deciding what is and what is not allowed.

Like the previous poster, I had no idea that you could get pirated apps when I first used Quickpwn. I've never been interested in stealing apps and still am not... in fact the only reason I jailbreak'd my phone was to BUY PdaNet and tether my laptop. (...and I pay Vodafone for that service too, by the way). It just doesn't follow that if you jailbreak you are a pirate at all, in fact there are loads of reasons to jailbreak that don't involve stealing apps.

I see it this way: If you download an app for free, because you wanted to try before you buy, and you find that its great, and you will continue to use it, you should download it legit. and pay the associated fee. We put a lot of time and effort into apps, and decide to charge for our time, and ONGOING efforts to make the app the best it can be.

I agree. I think if most apps had lite or trial versions it'd be far less pirating.

According to what the poll shows... Only a bit less... Currently only about 40% of people pirating use the app like a trial. Also, the stats from Pinch show that far less people end up buying apps after pirating than they do after downloading a "Lite" or trial version.

I cant speak on the first part, but perhaps people don't actually end up buying the apps after using a lite version because the app actually sucks? If it's a good app then I think people would be willing to pay for it after a trial.

Yes, of course... My point is more people buy the app after the trial than buy the app after pirating.

So what I'm saying is that trials and lite versions are not going to really reduce piracy.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

No pirating here. Just like the additional features that the device is currently lacking.

I Jail break to get features on my phone that should be there like other phones have... that unfortunately aren't there  (backgrounder, voip3g, sbsettings)
But after a while i started to download apps, seeing as it was jail broken. If these features were to be standard (at least make it easier for me to switch wifi on/off) then i'd give up on jail breaking.
