Are New MacPros 'stuck' with Mavericks?

I just got a new macbook pro with mavericks and I'm hugely disappointed with the iOS. My MP4,1 is still running Lion.

After waiting for years for the new MacPro and with it being just days away from release, it just dawned on me that I no longer want one. With every macpro upgrade so far all I did was swap a drive in. Now I would have to reconfigure my entire business IT from new. :/

Is there any indication on being able to run iOS 10.7 on the new mac pro?

The new hardware will require new drivers. Apple would have no monetary reason to invest in building new drivers for the old OS versions. You would have to manually find the drivers in Mavericks and copy them to Lion to see if they work.

1. Plug in an external drive
2. Load Lion onto it
3. Hold down Option to try booting off the external drive, if it fails
4. Find the needed support files/drivers on the internal drive and copy them to the external drive until the boot is successful
5. Clone the successful external drive to the internal drive

There is zero chance that the nMP will run on anything older then Mavericks. Apple does not update legacy OS's to support new hardware. The oldest version of OSX you'll be able to run is the version that came pre-installed. They have always operated this way, even back in the motorola 680xx days so there's no reason why they would suddenly change now.

Doubtful. There will likely be a custom build of OSX 10.9 just for the new mac pro's until those d300-700 drivers are rolled into the general 10.9.2 update.

I think there is a slim chance 10.8.5 could work, but the beta testers probably got custom builds. I think the GFX cards drivers are gonna be the issue.

If I'm going to make a switch to my IT, I'd have to explore moving to PC.

You can install Lion inside a VMware virtual machine. Run it full screen and you won't notice the difference.

I highly doubt you got a new MBP with an iOS installed. What are you disappointed in ? Not much difference to user in the last 3 MAC OS releases. Are you going to go back to Snow Leopard ?

You're running Lion, but Mavericks disappoints you? I skipped Lion and stayed with Snow Leopard, moved to Mountain Lion when I was missing out on too many things that wouldn't run on Snow Leopard, and I'm now pretty much OK with Mavericks.

Why setting as new ? You can migrate the data and the settings (at least with Time Machine, but if I remember correctly there is an option from a target disk too).
 
Let's recap: He decided that the new Mac Pro, with it's vast hardware changes that could make anyone furious and could cause huge restructuring in an IT department's purchasing plans, could work for his business. He then realized that Mavericks, with it's, what, five superficial changes would make it unusable? And his solution is not to get souped up old Mac Pros at 2/3 the price, and run them for years, but instead to switch to Windows?

You won't have to configure your IT business from new. BTW you know it's not an iOS right?

Just take one machine, do a full backup, then upgrade to OS X Mavericks and give it a test drive. Install it right over your old OS, or install and migrate the data. If you install over the old OS, it will retain all your settings and applications automatically. No reconfigure needed. It's a much better OS for most of us.

Give it a go, if it doesn't work out, just restore from backup and you're right back where you started (no harm, no foul).

Perhaps if you can't tell the difference between OS and iOS, a MacPro may be too advanced for you, anyway.

There is no chance 10.8.5 will work. All of the hardware will be the issue.

10.9 Mavericks is a far better operating system then 10.7 ever was. There's no good reason to make this cause you to switch to Windows.

I don't know about that. If OSX can run on a PC, I bet Lion could be made to run on a nMP by copying over the needed drivers. They both have the same base 64-bit OS.

The API might have changed, so the drivers won't work properly.

It's not just device drivers. There are other files that would need to be copied. As I recall there were device driver changes between Lion and Mountain Lion that I believe would ensure this wouldn't work.

Also, I wouldn't want to trust a hacked OS like that for my business.

Me too. I skipped Lion & went from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion on all our Macs (2xMac Pro 1xMac Mini 2 xMBP). I currently have one MBP running Mavericks. It's not vastly different from Mountain Lion or even Snow Leopard so I think that the OP is just trolling.
 
You have to jailbreak the Mac Pro and then you can install iOS 10.6. Then you won't need to restructure your entire IT organisation.

Lion was pretty much a step down, and Mavericks is close, or equal, to getting back to where Apple was with Snow Leopard.

This is the first time I've heard anyone who actually likes Lion.
 
What are your issues with Mavericks? Lion is trash compared to Mavericks. I haven't been as happy with an OS as I am with Mavericks since I left the final releases of Snow Leopard.

Yeah, I agree. If you are in IT, you wouldn't make the basic mistakes seen in this thread. iOS on a Mac? Really? Saying 10.7 was better than 10.9? No.

I like lion. at least I have to.
one of my main applications is lion minimum while my desktop is lion max so...
