On the macbook, if I plug in my microsoft mouse wireless usb dongle, then every window shows arrows and scroll bars at all times.

Mice do ave their uses, the track pad is very annoying when doing precision graphic editing, usually the cursor will jump a pixel as you lift your finger off from clicking.

I use the "Traxsys Rollerball+" which is specifically designed for people with hand/arm control issues, and its now difficult using software in OSX using that...

I really don't understand what Apple / Tim Cook are thinking of by ignoring this problem. I even spoke to the Accessibility team in America after being very insistent on the phone.

They told me that that they don't get consulted on changes to OS X... I thought he was joking at first, but the guy assured me that they have no say, and certainly can't veto a GUI change on accessibility grounds.

Totally unbelievable….

No, people ask me that all the time. I have the
Would switching on the scroll bars not be enough?

NO, NO, NO! Sorry, but if it was that easy, I wouldn't be planning to challenge Apple when I have other important things going on. The post 10.6.6 scroll bar has no up/down arrows at the bottom. This means that all software used in Mac OS X now cannot use the scroll bar with the control that was possible before.

Sorry to get annoyed, but I have never been precluded from full use of software before, disability or no disability and I have no plans to let this matter go unchallenged.

I hope Tim Cook is hanging his head in shame. I would be if I were him. Integrity is worth more than paying high dividends.

Again, may be missing the point, some mice have scroll up and down button on the side. Could they be used?

I can't use a mouse at all as I have ataxic cerebral palsy which severely affects my shoulder, arm, and hand control which is why I am constantly contacting Apple about the inaccessibility of the scroll bar.

The only mouse alternative I can use is:

There was absolutely no need for Apple to change the scroll bar. It wasn't as if keeping it would halt advances in software etc. A totally unnecessary change that Tim Cook will not acknowledge is a problem. Utter ignorance and contempt for his customers.

That is what this boils down to sadly.

Apple has always chosen style over practicality. Have you considered windows 10?

They're very useful and I hate that Mavericks doesn't have them.
Then you would have to move your mouse to them and start scrolling. With the magic mouse and track pad they certainly are not needed.

It would be cool if the computer could detect if none of these devices are present and then put the up and down buttons on the scroll bar in place.

I was also thinking that selecting these arrows sounds more difficult than, say, using the keyboard arrows, or dragging the scrolll bar.

It is hard to say without knowing the details of the disability, and this may be getting a bit invasive and personal.
