In 1984 with the introduction of Macintosh, apple was the underdog fighting the establishment. In 2011 apple is the establishment and looking to squash any of the underdogs that may pop up.

That's where all those billions in cash come in handy. Buy up companies that look promising and poof they're gone.

Except in 1984 the establishment was devoid of innovation, and made products that absolutely sucked. That's why Apple was such a breath of fresh air.

This time around, there are lineups extending for blocks for the establishment's products. The whole point for all time was for Apple to take on the role of the establishment.

They don't succeed because they strong-arm others or flood the market with junk. They succeed because they make awesome gear that folks keep talking about and happily spending money on.

There is a difference. The establishment is APPLE. Helllooooo!

Do you not remember Apple in the early to mid 90's? They had the worst products and they were the laughing stock of the computer world.

Big Brother might not be the proper term but they have a lot of power now that they never had in the past.

Actually the mid 80s had a lot of innovation. I remember the new software, hardware and excitement that was coming out of the computer industry that day. It was new and exciting, I can't see how you can say that it there was no innovation.

These tech companies are nothing like Orwell's Big Brother. They aren't the government and you don't have to buy into what they peddle. They're tech companies.

Agreed. If you don't like a Tech Companies 'Big Brotherness' then simply don't agree to their products terms of use and don't use their products.

Simple.

Apple strong arms anyone and anything that gets in their way. And they are sue happy on top of it.
