Black Macbook

I finally got myself a powerful Mac system, and I've been looking around for a really good driving game and I can't seem to find any.

I'm talking about an extremely realistic driving sim, with incredible scenery, roads and realistic physics. Does anybody know of one for Mac?

I'd like to find something that would sort of be the equivalent of X-Plane 9 for Mac, but in a driving game.

There aren't many good games of any sort for Mac. They're rarely released in the first place, and when they are, they're poorly-made ports that come years after the original release.

Use Boot Camp if you find any PC games that fit your criteria.

Wow, what a completely useless and negative answer!! Cabong, you don't deserve to be a Mac User.

To properly answer the thread starter, ToCA Race Driver 3 and Colin McRae Rally Mac are the newest racing games that are closest to what you are looking for. There's also Flatout 2, which is more arcade-like racing, but great graphics and very fun.

Don't use Bootcamp. Bootcamp is for losers.

Great, thanks. I'll be checking out the demos of those games.

Thanks for proving my point. The games you mention here are late ports of old games, and are themselves several years old at this point.

OP: It's unfortunate, but game developers just don't pay much attention to Mac OS. If you want to play more recent games that actually take advantage of your powerful new hardware, you should look into Boot Camp.

Now we have Steam for Mac you will be seeing a lot more games of all genre's including racing, they have a few there for Mac now including Blur,Dit2,etc.

Flatout 2 is not an old port, they completely remade the game & graphics engine for the mac version. It's a great game.

I don't see why we can't agree that there is a lack of new games for Mac. This is changing, but at the moment, most games, even bestsellers, don't have Mac versions, or, if they do, have belated ones.

If you still have trouble with that statement, check out this other recent thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/934282/

Blur and Dirt 2 are only available for PC through Steam.

Flatout 2 for PC, PS2, and XBox (not 360) came out back in 2006, and didn't come out for Mac until 2008. Additions and graphical tweaks to a game do not constitute a new game.

You should also try Virtual Grand Prix 3 (www.vgp3.com) - it is still under development but there are already a few great car mods and user made tracks. It uses a physic model that is based on how the tyres react to your driving - well worth this review:

I'm curious, where did you hear that VP remade the graphics engine? Porting an entire game to another platform is a job in itself, let alone improving the game at the same time.

The fact that the games mentioned aren't new has absolutely nothing to do with the topic of conversation. The thread starter said nothing about new or old; they simply asked about a really good driving game for Mac.

Hence, you're a bootcamping troll. Go back under your bridge, troll.

Actually Bootcamp is for MacGamers who don't want to wait and there is nothing wrong with that, is there? :)

There most certainly is.

Any informed and self-respecting Mac User would never use an M$ product, for M$ is the sworn enemy of Apple. I've said it before, and I'll say it again: for Apple to rise, M$ must fall !!!

Down with M$ !!! Its time is up !!!

The war only exists in the minds of the Mac jihadists... :)

I would put bootcamp on for non-gaming applications I need but it seems a waste to put it on just for gaming. If pc gaming was that important to me, I would just get a pc or maybe a console game.

Nice logic. I was pointing out that many games (including driving games) don't get a Mac release, and that a bigger library is available by using Boot Camp. If he's not interested in checking it out, it's his own prerogative, not yours.

As far as Microsoft vs. Apple, you seem to care a lot more than one should. Apple has already surpassed them in market capitalization, anyway. In any case, calling me a troll doesn't me one, or make you any less of one. Enjoy the snack.

People like you are the reason why M$ is still around to cast its plague on the entire computing world. M$ should have fallen a long time ago.

The war has been going on for a long time and will continue to go on even if you foolishly fail to recognize its existence. It will only end once M$ has bit the dust completely.

You were doing nothing more than ignoring the poster's question completely, and inserting your own bad advice - and you know it!

Flatout 2 happens to be an excellent port (especially if they redid the graphics engine).

You say it's the poster's choice whether to check out bootcamp or not, but you don't even give a choice. You mention no Mac games whatsoever and just tell them to use bootcamp.

The problem here is that you don't seem to care at all. Market capital dominance over M$ is only one of the many steps involved in the destruction of M$... and the rise of Apple.

A person isn't a troll because someone else says so, they are troll because of their own actions. Your first comment in the thread is the kind of comment that a troll would post considering the fact that this is a Mac website. Don't choke on my words, now.

(1) Mac Forums > Special Interests > Mac and PC Games
(2) OSX comes with Boot Camp

Judging by your posts in this and other threads, you seem to have a problem with Microsoft products, and vehemently more so with the people who choose to use them (or suggest occasionally using them, I guess). You have others besides me accusing you of being a troll in a different thread, so maybe you should calm down a bit.

I'm willing to bet that most of the readers of this thread would not agree with your conclusion.

Trolls say things for one reason, to piss off others. Just because he expresses an opinion you don't agree does not qualify as troll status. I suppose if I said your best overall Mac gaming experience awaits you via Bootcamp, would that make me a troll too? You need to relax.

It makes no difference that the forum section involves Mac and PC Games. What's the top level of the forum called? Is it called "Mac and PC Forums"? No, it's not. It's called "Mac Forums". If you post on a Mac website and badmouth Mac Gaming, then you're being a troll.

The purpose of Boot Camp is to "soften the blow" for Windoze users that switch to the Mac and all of a sudden have alot less software titles to choose from. Or possibly for the rare user that absolutely needs to use a Windoze-only program and can't use an alternative app for whatever reason. It is not for Mac Users to get access to Windoze programs they otherwise wouldn't be able to use. Every Mac User should know that using Windoze perpetuates the parasite that is M$ on the computing world.

Of course I have a problem with M$. That's because M$ makes bad products and is a terrible company. And, no, I don't have a problem with other people using Windoze. They can use Windoze all they want, because I know they just don't know any better and eventually they will come around and see the light. A Mac User, however, should know better. That's what I have a problem with.

It doesn't matter how many confused people accuse me of being a troll. It doesn't change the definition of a troll... and it doesn't turn me into one either.

Anyone reading this with a reasonable grasp of logic and reality would most certainly agree with me. As I said before, anyone posting on a Mac website and badmouthing anything regarding the Mac, could be considered a troll.

You just proved my point that Cabong is a troll. He posted something negative about Mac Gaming. Obviously, a Mac Gamer is someone who is likely to be pissed off at his comment. Cabong = troll.

I didn't post anything that would obviously piss anyone off here. All I did was post some of my own opinions regarding Mac Gaming. It's you that is taking offense to what I'm saying and trying, ineffectively, to bury me me in attacking/defacing comments which I am easily deflecting, because you have no actual basis for your "argument".

So don't even try to twist things around, because it's fruitless for you.

You're assuming I took offense. I guess disagreeing with you (from your perspective) also equates to being attacked and defaced. All I did was corrected your misunderstanding of "troll". And I see you took my "relax" suggestion to heart. Yes, it is fruitless. Lol.
