Are there no good driving games for Mac?

I finally got myself a powerful Mac system, and I've been looking around for a really good driving game and I can't seem to find any.

I'm talking about an extremely realistic driving sim, with incredible scenery, roads and realistic physics. Does anybody know of one for Mac?

I'd like to find something that would sort of be the equivalent of X-Plane 9 for Mac, but in a driving game.

There aren't many good games of any sort for Mac. They're rarely released in the first place, and when they are, they're poorly-made ports that come years after the original release.

Use Boot Camp if you find any PC games that fit your criteria.

To properly answer the thread starter, ToCA Race Driver 3 and Colin McRae Rally Mac are the newest racing games that are closest to what you are looking for. There's also Flatout 2, which is more arcade-like racing, but great graphics and very fun.

Don't use Bootcamp. Bootcamp is for losers.

OP: It's unfortunate, but game developers just don't pay much attention to Mac OS. If you want to play more recent games that actually take advantage of your powerful new hardware, you should look into Boot Camp.

Now we have Steam for Mac you will be seeing a lot more games of all genre's including racing, they have a few there for Mac now including Blur,Dit2,etc.

I don't see why we can't agree that there is a lack of new games for Mac. This is changing, but at the moment, most games, even bestsellers, don't have Mac versions, or, if they do, have belated ones.

Blur and Dirt 2 are only available for PC through Steam.

Flatout 2 for PC, PS2, and XBox (not 360) came out back in 2006, and didn't come out for Mac until 2008. Additions and graphical tweaks to a game do not constitute a new game.

You should also try Virtual Grand Prix 3 (www.vgp3.com) - it is still under development but there are already a few great car mods and user made tracks. It uses a physic model that is based on how the tyres react to your driving - well worth this review:

I'm curious, where did you hear that VP remade the graphics engine? Porting an entire game to another platform is a job in itself, let alone improving the game at the same time.

I would put bootcamp on for non-gaming applications I need but it seems a waste to put it on just for gaming. If pc gaming was that important to me, I would just get a pc or maybe a console game.

Flatout 2 happens to be an excellent port (especially if they redid the graphics engine).

You say it's the poster's choice whether to check out bootcamp or not, but you don't even give a choice. You mention no Mac games whatsoever and just tell them to use bootcamp.

The problem here is that you don't seem to care at all. Market capital dominance over M$ is only one of the many steps involved in the destruction of M$... and the rise of Apple.

It makes no difference that the forum section involves Mac and PC Games. What's the top level of the forum called? Is it called "Mac and PC Forums"? No, it's not. It's called "Mac Forums". If you post on a Mac website and badmouth Mac Gaming, then you're being a troll.

The purpose of Boot Camp is to "soften the blow" for Windoze users that switch to the Mac and all of a sudden have alot less software titles to choose from. Or possibly for the rare user that absolutely needs to use a Windoze-only program and can't use an alternative app for whatever reason. It is not for Mac Users to get access to Windoze programs they otherwise wouldn't be able to use. Every Mac User should know that using Windoze perpetuates the parasite that is M$ on the computing world.

Of course I have a problem with M$. That's because M$ makes bad products and is a terrible company. And, no, I don't have a problem with other people using Windoze. They can use Windoze all they want, because I know they just don't know any better and eventually they will come around and see the light. A Mac User, however, should know better. That's what I have a problem with.
