If you always take the same things with you when you go out the door, count them. For example I always take 4 things with me, phone, home key, car key, wallet. I count by touching my pockets when I leave. Very quickly it becomes a habit and you rarely forget one of them.

Oh my god I forgot my iPhone OH MY GOD LIBERATION!!!!! from that dang electronic leash. I did this the other day and I realized it when I was in the nearby town. MY wife decided to call me and she said she heard my iPhone ringing on my desk. I smiled and said yep I was liberated for a hour.

Honestly I do not like doing that and have not done that in a couple years but I had my wallet car keys and sweater so I was fine.

Your comment immediately reminded me of that fantastic film from 2000 called Memento, do you know it?

OP: Not directly associating this with you! Just love this movie. A more hard core solution to just scribbling a phone number on one's hand.
Yes it was a long time ago but I liked it.

are there things that can prevent me from leaving the house and forgetting to take my iPhone?

thanks!
I do it intentionally sometimes. Wanna remember 1997 the first year I was driving. In your case I am not sure. Do you want iPhone to be with you all the time? If so what can prevent this? I am not sure in your case.

You might laugh but a friends dad always patted himself to confirm while saying, “Wallet, Phone, Spectacles (glasses) and Testicles” confirming that he was set to head out the door.

Kind of hard to forget once you’ve said it a time or two.

The original version was with a pocket watch, so ”spectacles, testicles, wallet and watch” while crossing onesself. Shows you how far back that one goes.

I have a rhythmic chant (rap) that I use: Wallet, Keys, Phone, Sunglasses. It has become a learned unforced habit every time when I'm gathering those things together to leave.

Get so used to always listening to podcasts or music that stepping out of the house and into general street noise just feels wrong.

I rented a Chevy Malibu that actually popped up Check Back Seat when I turned the car off

Ford F-150 pickup truck had this for a while now as well:

On the car I have, it’s indicated that, since the car’s been unlocked, if the back door opens and shuts, it gives a reminder. If that’s the case, then if the kids climb from front to back seat, since the back door didn’t open, there’s likely no notification.

I wonder if some cars have back seat sensors OR if they all use that logic?

Get a lock for your door that you CAN NOT LOCK without your phone. Remove any feature that auto-locks after being opened then shut for x amount of time.
