Are we able to talk Ultra/Fold cases yet?

New iPhone Season is my favorite time of the year and this time around it’s extra exciting 🙂

Despite my attachment to the Pro Max line, I have pretty much decided that I’m going to take a chance on the Ultra when preorders go live. I’ll be trading in my 17PM to T-Mobile and financing as I always do.

I ALWAYS use a case. I feel like I have lost my grip on reality because for the first time, I genuinely feel like I should go naked to avoid adding bulk. I feel clinically insane because it’s probably going to be fragile and cost $2k 🫠 AppleCare+ is necessary as always.

Has anyone come across any promising case options that won’t detract from how thin the phone is? Having the Pro Max in a bulky shock absorbing case has never bothered me and it’s what I prefer but I feel like adding bulk to this stubby little square (when folded) would be less than pleasant.

Yes, something like this! It seems like the only protection it would provide would be against surface cosmetic damage and that’d be really weird for me—I’ve been used to thick shock absorption this whole time—but I don’t want to spend so much on an ultra and feel like I’m carrying around a toy building block 😅

For those with cases on other brand's fold phones, how do the cases do with the hinge? Do they cover the hinge, and how well does that work? Would cases that not cover the hinge work better?

I prefer minimalist cases so will be going with something like the
Latercase.

You going from PM to the Ultra, it’s only slightly wider when folded. For me, going from the 17 Pro to the Ultra, it’s 11.9 mm wider (just under 1/2”), which is significant, so we’ll have to see.

I had the official Google case for the 9 Pro fold, pre built-in magnetic charging. Even with a super slim magnet it was too thick, the hinge wasn't really protected, and the stick on frame for the front screen was not great. Hoping that Apple getting into the foldable game kickstarts case companies to really develop some good cases.

That is very nice! I’ve never liked the idea of a ring stand or similar, but I’ve been thinking one would make sense with the Ultra since it’s going to be such a great media consumption screen, I can see myself wanting to sit out on my patio with it unfolded and propped up so I can be on Netflix while my daughter runs around the yard. I think if I get a case, I’ll be on the lookout for something like this—very thin profile with a flip out stand. I just really need the case to work with my MagSafe charging stand as that is the only way I’ve charged my phone overnight for as long as I can remember haha.

Exactly you're going to end up using a stand more than you think and the good thing about these are that you can just pull them off when you don't want to use them and use the case by itself, there are also going to be a lot of options with cases and stands built into the case and knowing that it's Apple you know you're going to have a lot of good choices.

The Thinborne is a nice case, but I don’t like that it uses adhesive for the back part. It’s similar to the Latercase, which uses adhesive for the front part but not the back.

I used it on my Fold 7 for a whole year no issues and currently I have a few cases that I alternate with this one and I take them off and swap them out I never have any issues with the case. I don't have any movement or any extra stickiness on the phone and I also take them off to wipe down the phone.

I have one now on my Pixel 10

My MagBak case came in along with extra color swaps for the case in grey. It's cool how they have a screen protector that you can apply with the box of the case.

I'm definitely not buying any cases that swap out colors lmao I almost threw the case away trying to get these small little rubber sides and swapping the power button was a pain. The stand feels a little flimsy TBH but feels better standing vertical. The case also has two magnetic strips on the back that attach to anything if you wish to do a lot of selfies LOL or vlogs maybe at the gym? Haha

Oh wow! Thanks! This looks a bit thicker than what I’d go for but I’m still going to keep it in mind, if nothing else than for the wallet that they have that fits perfectly! I don’t carry a purse and rely completely on my MagSafe wallet. I could switch over to apple pay and just keep my wallet in the car but ideally I’d like to keep my 3 cards on me.
