Having used Androids, I think Apple has neglected audio for a long time. It’s amazing what HTC in particular did with audio recording quality for videos. Samsung records video in nice immersive stereo sound. My iPhone audio on my videos sounds so muffled and lifeless in comparison, unless I attach my Shure stereo lightning mic.

I also think sound over Bluetooth is clearer through my Android phones and APTX headphones than my iPhones paired with my Beats Studio Wireless and other Applecentric earbuds and headphones.

Call quality on my 8 Plus and ability to hold onto LTE signal is poor compared to even what my older Androids, like my HTC 10 was able to achieve. I am very interested in seeing what the new Intel modems can do for iPhones this year. That’s one big draw for me because I really am more a fan of the iPhone 8 Plus and Touch ID and otherwise would have ignored the XS.

And even in its much celebrated image quality, Apple needs to get its propensity to blow out highlights and turn noise into mosaic effects under control. Noise is an inescapable part of low light photography but I see it handled so much better by the competition.

We should also finally get a built in manual camera control interface. I have this on my Samsung S9+ and it enabled me to get photos of the full moon over the ocean that I could not get with even my Pixel 2. Nor my husband’s IPhone X and my 8 Plus. I know there are apps for this but it would be so much better to have Apple build this in.

They really let iPhones be outdone by Android phones in key areas in which they’d always taken pride. If Android manufacturers can do these things and indeed, have been doing them for at least 3 years now, I have no doubt Apple could do even better if they would pull their heads out of...their state of obliviousness or disinterest.

Unfortunately I don’t think Apple has any interest in making these improvements. Because I don’t think many people care. For alll the complaints that fly on this forum, I never see anyone seem as concerned as I am about these things. So why should Apple bother about audio if nobody cares and they’re now a trillion dollar company?

There are many workflow features I’ve heard other people say they would like to see implemented. So yes, Apple still has a way to go toward the peak. But they’re not that hungry anymore. Unless it’s for China. If Huawei keeps kicking their butt outside of the US, then maybe Apple will push itself harder.

I agree. Only 5G or a new form factor would convince me to upgrade. I'm looking to keep the XS Max for 2 years and will upgrade in 2020.

For the first time since the iPhone 4S, I won’t be upgrading and will keep my X for another year. I’m happy and content with my X and the iOS 12 beta. Plus I bought 18 cases and I hate for my money to go to waste in a year. I’ll upgrade next year to XS Max or whatever it’s called in 2019.

It seems like soon Apple is going to run out of major things to upgrade for iPhones

I'm glad you're not running Apple. Off the top of my head I can think of more than a thousand things the iPhone can't currently do.
You're thinking way too small and inside the box. The possibilities for what a handhold device could be capable of in the future have only been touched upon. The future for pocket computers is limitless.

Brilliant post. And you’re absolutely correct. In the sense that smart phones are really taking over in a sense of how much we can accomplish our daily task with not just using it as a communication device, but as a means of having access to most everything we need with Apple Pay, augmented reality capabilities, Face ID, Health data, ect. As much as I enjoy my laptop and my iPad, I find myself resorting more to my iPhone I ever have before, because it really does reach all the necessities I need to on a daily basis. My iPhone is the most capable pocket tool I own.

We’re about there. I have a 6s and there’s nothing I can think of that will substantially improve my experience. No matter the phone I’ll be doing the same things I am now with similar enjoyment.

I’ve heard of solid state battery development that would be a big win. Even that simply eases existing use by going longer between charges.

There would need to be a major interface breakthrough that we can’t predict yet. Maybe a great all-in-one that can be docked and also used well as a full sized home computer.

Cmon guys how can you’ll think there will be nothing new or nothing major at the time when Apple and the world has just started with AR. Upcoming iPhones may not do a lot more things but we are going to change the way we communicate, travel and work because of AR.

Maybe u should overthink your cases strategy in the 1st place :D

. I’ve never purchased more than 3-5 cases for every iPhone I’ve owned. I think because Rose Gold wasn’t a color anymore, I tried to find more cases with that color as it was my first. I even kept my Rose Gold 7+ as a backup.

The iPhone will always pickup new capabilities whether it’s medical or ‘ on the go’ (such as accessing an ATM or opening a locked bank door) etc
While the hardware shape may be foldable or bendable in the future

IDK but Apple will continue to release equipment the way they want, say it’s the best in the world and tell me it is what I need. o_O

5G, camera improvements, more ram, speed increases, but the next big sell will be wrap around screen on left and right edges and removal of buttons. Or a foldable phone/tablet solution on the high end.
