I find myself accidentally calling the iPhone by the letter ‘X’ instead of ‘10’ many times, that’s likely because of how I read it versus I interpret it. But we will know here shortly what Apple has in store for the title.

Plenty of folks will pronounce it 10s, and plenty of folks will pronounce it 'Excess'. I hear the current one pronounced both '10' and 'X' all the time.

You were never supposed to say the iPhone X as "Ex" ... it's always been the Ten. So no reason to call the upcoming model "Ex Es"

For those who pronounced X as Ex, how did you pronounce Super Bowl LII?

It certainly wasn’t Lee.

By the way. It’s Ten S.

I hear it out of the same person at times. He will say iPhone ten sometimes and ex others.
[doublepost=1535756334][/doublepost]Apple sucks at this though because the X Serve was not the Ten Serve.

Haha yeah my mom pronounces it both ways at various times.

Apple really does have a naming conondrum on their hands. I think it's time to just drop the numbering tbh.

There's nothing confusing about XS being read as 10S. If people who are gainfully employed such as to be able to afford $1000 phones are confused by this, then all hope for humanity is completely lost.

What about the people that are gainfully employed to afford $10k digital watches that called it the iWatch? Sorry you made an embarrassingly stupid point.

This whole "we should all understand this" argument doesnt make sense to me. Though its very easy to understand for an Apple enthusiastic like me (and 99% of everyone on this forum), its best to realize that most people dont pay as close attention and constantly call the iPhone X the "Ex". If I were Apple, I would do everything I can to make sure people are pronouncing my product names correctly, seems like a big deal to me.

The OP is right. People here tend to forget that if you read and post on these forums, that alone proves that you probably care about and pay more attention to Apple products than at least 90% of the people buying them. Tons of people still think that the X is called the "Ex". I've had conversations with people who thought that there was already an iPhone 9 (why else would there be one called the "ten"?). Trust me, most people don't know or care very much about the tech they buy. They basically go into the store and say, "I'll take an iPhone, please!" I've known people who literally don't know which model they bought!

For us it is simple. We see Apple announce it and how the pronounce it. We follow the products. Must people they just read iPhone X and for most it just reads “ex”. This is not helped also by the fact that the X is used as a letter in many other products (Xbox one X, Mortal Kombat X, etc). Most non techie people I have interacted with refer it as iPhone “ex”.

Leading up to the reveal most of the tech community even thought that it would be pronounced "Ex", and if you watch some of the earliest hands-on videos you'll see that it even took some techies some time to break the habit!

“Dude, have you seen iPhone Ten S yet?”

“No, not really into sports games on iPhone.”

o_O

iPhone ex sounds much better ;)

I’m curious as to what they will call the 6.1 in. Some rumors said iPhone 9 which wouldn’t make sense if they update it next year or the next as they can’t call it iPhone 10.

Here’s a curveball, maybe they’ll call it the X SE?

Exactly, not every iPhone user or potential iPhone user reads forums/tech sites, or watches the keynotes.

There’s also ‘X’ pronounced as ‘ex’ used a lot on other phone brands/names

In India nobody I know (except me) pronounces it as iPhone 10. Those who can afford it definitely don't pronounce it as iPhone 10.

The sooner  leaves Roman numerals behind it, the better. Look at the mess the Super Bowl is in.

The iPhone will always be read as "Ex" then the brain has to do a millisecond correction each damn time to translate it into "ten". Rubish naming scheme. Apple & it's love affair with the damn Roman numeral X. Enough already.
you worry too much for nothing.
seriously the Super Bowl thing is a non issue. Naming of a stupid phone is a non issue. In twenty years will you look back at 2018 and be like yea I lived through that and it was rough for humanity.
Common.
Everyone should just breath and pick up a damn hobby

All the more reason I think they should just drop the numbering system. It’s not like they even brand the phones themselves, or the boxes, with numbers.

It’ll be pronounced ex ess. Calling it the ten makes you sound like a bit of a wanker

nobody but none techy people called the X actual X. Its called the ten. so who's the wanker now?
Your post doesn’t actually make sense, but I can assure you that the vast majority of people, including so called “techie” people, refer to it as the “ex”. Literally nobody calls it the “ten”, and anybody that does would look like a wanker. Lmao

its called the ten. deal with it.
None techy people meaning the majority of people that dont care about tech sites or keep up to date on any of this call the phone X. Its called the ten...

Who's the wanker now calling it something it's not. If apple is calling it the ten then that is what it is....
You’re missing the point. Indeed it might well officially be pronounced the “ten”, but in practice the vast majority of people call it the “ex”, and pronouncing it the “ten” makes you sound pretentious at best, and a lot of the time people wouldn’t even know what you were talking about.

As I said the only people that call it the X are people that arent informed and non techy people
My mom calls it the X.
You can call it the X if you like but calling people wankers that call it by its ACTUAL name makes no sense.
