Are you embarrassed to use the Air in public?

  • Unfortunately, yes, I’ve had this feeling.

Wow like, I'll admit I personally and mostly privately "don't want" the Air to be too popular as it validates Apple's sacrifices of battery life and cameras in favour of thinness and want the Pro to be popular to validate the opposite / "function over form" ... because often what's less successful gets the chop.... (But I love the current setup and hope they keep it. You have the normal one, the sports car and the truck)

However I wouldn't judge anyone else's "vote"! Pick what you love and don't worry about it.

Life is too short to worry about what other people think. Yes you will get people who play the game of phone brand tribalism or even phone model tribalism, ignore them, it's not a school playground and you're no longer 12 :)

My first answer to the question why would anyone be embarrassed to use the Air in public? I for one love the device and would recommend it to anyone who was looking for a lightweight, fast, durable and great looking device that has a great forum factor. I upgraded from a 15 Pro and not looking back.

There’s been an unfortunate amount of negative chatter about the Air lately, and Pro (Max) users in particular (not all of them, of course) often seem eager to prove it shouldn’t even exist. So here’s a question for Air users: have you ever caught yourself, while using your Air in public, feeling a little embarrassed that someone might see you with this so-called “compromise” phone?

Ummm.. this post is embarrassing. I mean, really. What. A. Ridiculous. Question.

Oh, I read this thread a few days ago. And just now noticed it in the sidebar.

I thought/hoped this one would wither.

This is going to be one of those threads, isn't it? 😕 You know, the ones that are absurdly long even though the premise of the initial post is faintly ridiculous…

It’s like what people say versus what they actually do. People claim to hate Apple’s solutions and prices, yet they keep buying the products. It’s the same with this post. People say they don’t like it, but they still come here and respond. Maybe it’s not so ridiculous then. Especially when 33 people have replied Yes to the poll.

With all due respect, this is pure insecurity and disconnect from reality.

I guarantee you that everybody has way more important things going on in their lives to care or even notice your phone. What's more, most people aren't tech geeks like us forum members who think about a phone like the Air in terms of "compromise". If they're thinking anything about it at all it's probably just, "oh, I think that's the new thin iPhone. Neat." And not giving it a second thought.

Quite the opposite, I couldn't be happier with my Air and go out of my way to show it off to friends and family, have sold 3 people on getting an Air! It is not a compromise at all the ONLY feature I'm lacking is telezoom which is a small price to pay for the massive weight savings!

I don't look at anyone's phone and pretty sure they don't look at mine. I also dread having to feign interest when anyone wants to show off their new phone.

8 pages and top bill on front page for days for the most Gen-Z of questions lol!

I had a look at the Air in an Apple Store, does feel tremendous in hand. It’s not for me, but if it was, I’d be going back to caseless. Last time I was caseless was the green 11 Pro. Happily went big after that but find a case to be essential for the Max phones.

Why would anyone be embarrassed to use an iPhone?

The Air isn't THAT different...especially in a case.

Folks, I hate to break it to you ... but nobody cares what your phone is anymore.

Nobody.
I’d go further no one cares or notices you at all. Remember the saying: in your 20s and 30s you constantly worry about what others think of you; in your 40s you don’t care what anyone thinks of you and in your 50s you realise no one has even been thinking of you at all.

Haha brilliant, so true.

Late 40s. I was pretty self conscious in my younger days, started to shake it off mid 30s. So glad there weren’t camera phones during the party years. Never been a wild man lol, but there were stupid drunken moments thankfully lost to time.
