Right after the holiday season and early in the new release cycle may be the wrong time to ask such a question if you seek some kind of barometer about "next phone" enthusiasm. I bet if this exact same question was asked again in about June or July, the sentiment would shift from the picture that seems to be forming in this thread- apathy? Collective sentiment when the new iPhones are relatively far from being so new would probably look very different.

The lot of us are probably not very excited about what's coming 9+ months from now vs. the latest & greatest we have just purchased or received. But many of us will probably feel different when we're only a few months from the next launch date.

I would have but the OLED gave me eye strain—that was a deal breaker for me, period. I got the 8Plus and am delighted with it, I’m even digging the bold white bezels after a year with a black iPhone and having black fronts on my Android phones. Also, cue the choir: by trading in my 7 Plus I got it for $630. Oooooooo!

Also, if Face ID is the future, well the current design means ridiculously high repair costs that practically necessitate Apple Care Plus, which also got prohibitively expensive. Need I mention the high initial purchase cost? I can’t see committing to that annually.

As long as I can pop a fresh battery into this 8 Plus when I need to, in order to avoid throttling, I think I’d like to commit to this one. I’ve been upgrading annually but I think I am at the end of the line. Just going off the rumors, of course. Who knows what Apple may do to surprise us?

As things stand now, I don’t want to pay the premium for a biometric unlock method I find is not significantly more desirable than the less expensive but effective and versatile Touch ID. Yes, it’s plain and dated but it gets the job done and doesn’t require the design sacrifices and high costs Face ID technology requires.

I have upgraded annual to every new model with exception to the 3GS, it was the only one I skipped but at the end of this year. I will probably end up with the new version.
I don't see myself going to the plus size on the next phone because my wants/needs have changed and I enjoy the smaller size and feel of the current X.

If this was my primary viewing device then maybe but as of right now. I am staying on the smaller version unless there is a specific feature other than size between the two models.

While I have preordered iPhones on launch day almost yearly, I've never actually been excited about them. It was more like I didn't want my device subsidy going to waste.

I was more excited in the early years, when it seemed that each new iPhone had compelling features and new functions that I felt I just HAD to have..... The only iPhone I didn't have was the iPhone 4s, and I don't recall now what happened that year. Excitement kind of slacked off for a while, although aroused again by the advent of the Plus models, but while I liked the Plus, I felt that those phones were just too large and a bit awkward for my small hands. When the iPhone 7/7 Plus was released, with its gorgeous shiny jet black back, I was enthralled and loved that phone immediately. If Apple had not released the iPhone X I probably would have skipped getting a new iPhone this year, since the 8 and 8 Plus really didn't hold much appeal for me and I was happy with my jet black 7 Plus. As it happened, though, the iPhone X was enticing and I heeded the siren call..... I love it! The size is just right for me and it's fun having different styling after several years of the same basic appearance. I'll probably be tempted by whatever Apple offers us in September 2018, but in the meantime I'm enjoying my iPhone X very much.

I also get excited at announcements of new updated iPads as well, and always look forward to those. I recently got around to replacing my first-generation iPad 12.9 so probably will skip the next iteration of that one, but would be more likely to get the next version of the 10.5 iPad, which for me is the perfect size for going out-and-about.

The primary thing that Apple could do to excite me in 2018 would be to give Jony Ive his walking papers and get some fresh talent! Then I'd be excited for the future.

If that's not done, then I'm not excited because I think 2018 will give us the more of 2017. Notches, roundness, narrowness, face id, lost direction from the design team, etc., etc.

Has the excitement got little down? Would you upgrade to the next iPhone if you have iPhone X? I have iPhone X not feeling excited now, bought most iPhone on launch days. My mom is also buying launch day iPhones, currently has iPhone X & i asked her for the 2018 future models & she is also saying she don’t want.

Part of growing up is the learn to impulse control, so yeah, I do not get excited over iPhones or any other widget or device anymore. And Apple is also nudging me that way by releasing $1000 phones, a price level which (at least for me) is not an impulse buy.

I won’t upgrade. I have an 8 right now and whether it’s software issues or sloppy issues, my phone runs like crap right now. I’m kinda frustrated. It lags and shuts down at random. I have to do a hard reset numerous times a day to even get basic things done. If this goes on much longer, I’ll ask for a replacement with downgraded software. It’s just not working. Even the screen with have occasional lines and glitches, it’s odd. I’ve experience rusty software but this is awful. Makes me miss the days when 4S and 5SE were new. Those were solid devices. Idk what is going on but they need to fix it soon.

Sorry, no. Stayed with my trusty 7+.
Well, almost. Besides not upgrading, I have become more than dissatisfied with iOS11 to the point I have now adopted the Razer as my new daily driver.

Excited only from a stock investment point of view. Tech-wise, I'm generally more excited now to see what Samsung comes up with. They seem to have the edge on innovation these days. As usual, Apple will just bump specs, and Tim will say how amazing it is and how they are very pleased with the amazing response they are seeing in preorders. Blah blah blah.

When Apple blows me out of the water, I may get excited about iOS again. But for now, same ol' thing.

Wow from iphone to Razr that’s quite a jump. I like X but i still prefer my 7 plus jet black.

I also have regular 8 too 256gb running 11.2.2 but it’s working flawlessly. The iPhone 8 you have must be defective, i guess you should show it to apple tech immediately.

I watched one video of iPad Pro 10.5 2018 model, leaked specs & design it looks really good and tempting. Regarding newer 2018 model even if it comes without notch it wont be tempting for me.

I have X and iPad Pro 10.5, when i use X which now have different gestures then iPad Pro i find little cumbersome to use both devices. Both has different control center locations & both unlocks differently.

You have made a good point but usually around this time my mind has already set to buy new iphone. There never was a question for me whether i will buy the newest iPhone or not. Perhaps it’s different for everyone.

Apart from the subsidy days, I decide whether to buy or not after seeing the keynote and determining whether whatever new features the phone has are worth it to me or not.

Never got terribly excited about or upgraded every year. It's a phone. They continue to make what I consider to be the best, they add new features and benefits each year, and I will upgrade when I need a new phone. But it's still just a phone and I won't get that excited about it.

I used to get excited. Back when you really noticed a camera upgrade, or a faster CPU upgrade....These past couple of years smartphones in general, and especially iPhones have reached a plateau. The cameras have all been 12 megapixels for awhile, they all load the UI and open apps extremely fast, all have the same form factor since the iPhone 6 (other than X). And they just get more and more expensive. I don't need to pay $800 (at once or over time) to open my Twitter .0001 second faster, or to capture a shadow in a photo just alittle better. Show me something I didn't know I want, then you can have your $800.
