Control center is much less convenient, and for example if you’re watching a video, invoking control center may pause the video, so you lose the immediate feedback when adjusting the volume (you may have to go back and forth between the video and CC multiple times to find the right volume).
For me I use Control Center to control volume most of the time . It’s more convenient for me since I’m right handed. When I’m watching videos I don’t recall accessing Control Center will stop a video , maybe only for certain apps , not really sure since it never bother me enough.

It depends upon the video source, e.g, using nPlayer, opening the Control Center causes the video to pause in the background and you can't hear the volume change as you adjust it; using Infuse, the video blurs but continues to play and you can hear the volume change as you adjust it in Control Center. With nPlayer and using Control Center, you won't know if the volume level is what you want until you close Control Center and the video automatically resumes playing.

I think the review on MacStories summed up the mini perfectly - "delight." I really like the iPad mini for being an absurdly small and powerful device. It's a bit small for my bad eyes for tones of use, but for books and light browsing it's great. While it doesn't bother me much for my uses, I will say the screen is disappointing. Not jus the jelly scroll, but it just doesn't feel as responsive as the other iPads.

Right now I have a 12.9" iPad Pro and mini. I plan to get an 11" iPad Pro on the next refresh and sell the 12.9" and I'll continue to use the mini until it stops working. I don't think I'll replace it though. It's really nice, but can be replaced by an 11" for my uses.

I see what you mean, I actually use both of those apps regularly to watch videos from my desktop SMB server and the reason I don't recall having any issue with adjusting the volume is because:

nPlayer: this app have their own build in volume control. you just need to place your finger on the right side of the screen and then scroll up or down to adjust the volume. Video will not stop, its continuous. you can also change brightness when you scroll on the left side of the screen. I use nPlayer on some files that Infuse dont want to play.

Infuse: when you tap on the screen you will see the volume control pop up, you can then just scroll left or right.
Or you can also do the same as nPlayer, scroll up/down on right side to adjust volume .. Video will not stop, will not blur, its continuous.

Since these apps already have their own build in volume control and is easy to use, I do not see the point to use Control Center for them. I treat CC the same as the volume button, I don't use it unless I really need to use it. I do watch Youtube videos alot and for that I do use CC to change volumes.. yeah, my left hand is as lazy as it can get.?

Agree - I don’t use CC but just tested to see their behavior. I use the built-in controls, too.

I have an IPad Pro 12.9 4th Generation and Mini 6 which is a great combo size wise. The Mini 6 is great but the layout and spacing of the icons on the Home Screen needs attention. It’s probably the worst layout of all the iPads. Every time I open my Mini I’m reminded. Hopefully this gets fixed in IOS 16.

I just recently got the iPad Mini 6. It took about a week to get use to, (Especially for my eyesight) but so far I prefer it vs. my 11" Pro, especially when travelling. Yes, It has it's issues, but I can live with them.

Hey guys,

Ordered the new iPad mini 6 from work, but I have to say it’s been a bit of a disappointment.

I love, love, love the form factor, but the performance and general response is so much worse than my 2018 IPP. Didn’t expect to notice the Jelly scrolling or lack of 120hz, but this is not an enjoyable device coming from my 11” iPad Pro. Animations stutter and so does audio when typing.

Will update to iOS 15.4 and see if this helps.

Are you generally happy with the device? Or facing similar issues?
My wife and I ended up selling the iPad mini 6 we got. Initially I really liked the form factor but the text was just too small and it felt laggy after time compared to my iPP 11. The person we sold it to (who didn't have an iPad before) initially loved it but is now selling it too for something bigger.

The "jelly scrolling" didn't affect or bother either of us (or the person we sold it to).

Great for books and some apps but web browsing just shows like blown up iPhone

I ditched the mini 6 for (my first) IPP 11’ and I havent looked back. I’d only ever owned minis and had convinced myself it was the perfect size, but I now believe the 11’ to be superior in almost every way for my uses.

I'm very happy with mine. Coming from a Pro 10.5", it's much lighter and convenient when using it as a reader. Also, as a "console". It's just the perfect size and weight.
I can notice the jelly here and there, but it's nothing serious... it doesn't normally disturb me.
If I'd have this iPad as my only device other than the iPhone? No. I can do it because I also have a MBP that I use for more serious stuff.
I see this iPad as a ... classic iPad and not an iPad trying to be a laptop or whatever. I'm using it for simple, iPad things.

It also works nice when connected to an external display. In this scenario (+keyboard and mouse), it can be as useful as the bigger iPads.

Starting to see a rash of the Mini 6's for sale, preowned (some BNIB too), around me on FB/CL
Seems like a mixed bag over the longer term here.

I also notice how hard it is to tell how people feel specifically about the Mini 6

A lot of positive comments about it are actually comments about the Mini form factor in general, and not specifically the latest iteration.

I am happy with my iPad mini 6 but of course nothing is perfect, so I would like to see the following improvements in the next update:
* ProMotion Display
* better use of available space / optimizations for iPadOS
* better battery life (The iPad Pro has better battery life)

ProMo display and much better iPad OS optimization for sure

On aspects other than the form factor, I find it to be fine as a tablet. Is it the equivalent of my 2021 12.9 Pro? No - but then I never had expectations that it would be.

I love the size. To be honest, that's kind of all compared to my 12.9 iPad Pro 2021. The screen is so much better and I really miss Face ID.
Do you ever find yourself resting your finger on the power button on the 12.9 iPad Pro to unlock it because you've been using the Mini for a bit? I've started doing that. But yes, I agree. The most stark difference between the 2 is the screen quality. That 12.9 Mini LED display is so great. And TouchID definitely feels like extra work to unlock the Mini compared to the Pro.

The form factor is a huge part of what makes the mini an excellent solution for portable use. But there are other things that help make it great.
  • Fast A15 SoC
  • Pencil 2 support with magnetic charging
  • TouchId on the power button
  • 5G Cellular
  • WiFi 6
  • Center Stage
Along with the size, I love the squared off sides of the case.
