I have been using the 95% charging limit, but I am not impressed. I own an iPhone 16 Pro, and I typically need to charge my phone twice a day. I am experiencing abnormal battery drain, which seems to be a bug in iOS 18, yet I am trying the 95% limit. Previously, I tried optimized charging on past iPhones, but it didn't work. I then switched to charging my phone to 100% before bed and unplugging it afterward. I might have to return to that method just to regain the lost 5%. I thought charging overnight would be better for updates, but the results haven't been satisfactory.

I used the 80% limit when I got my 15 Pro last December, and over the summer switched it to 85%. My battery health is currently at 94%. This is much better than my former 14 Pro. I had that for about 14 months and at the end of that time it was down to something like 82-84% health, which I feel is pretty unacceptable for that amount of time.

For what a battery replacement costs, I'd want to just use my full battery capacity from the start.
I'd rather need a new battery sooner, than constantly run out of charge!

But if someone charges his phone to 100% and has always 20% left at the end of the day he still doesn’t use the the full capacity. There’s no downside to limit it to 80% then.

You never know when that 20% could be the difference between life and death... extreme scenario I know, but still.

But there is a definite downside to running it down to 0% (which you would be doing in your example). There are some claimed benefits for not charging to 100%, but that doesn't stop people with charging limits from having bad battery health. It's weird that it's chemistry, but not an exact science, right?

After a while your iPhone should offer you a particular charging limit, based on your individual usage pattern, so you might see a message with a recommended % under your battery settings. Mine says “85%” and marks it in green on the % graph, as below.

Yeah mine came up as 80%. Set it up to that for now.
