Can 2x newer models be used as a second screen?
(Are all newer models "retina" and it just doesn't work anymore with 2015+?)

As I said, only iMacs up to 2014 can be used as a second screen using Target display Mode. Newer models don't support TDM.

From https://support.apple.com/en-au/guide/mac-help/mh30822/mac "Only iMac (27-inch, Late 2009), iMac (27-inch, Mid 2010) and iMac (Mid 2011 to Mid 2014) support Target Display Mode."

So i just went to the apple website to see if i can go through the Trade-In wizard to see how much ill get for my 2019 iMac from Apple towards a purchase of a new Mac and there is no 2019 iMac to be selected, only upto Mid 2017.. i don't get how im supposed to check, it should know it by itself as well cuz i gave it my serial number yet it still asked me to manually select what year my iMac is

So from what it seems based on the latest from 9to5 mac we won’t see the new iMac released on the market till next year “
A Bloomberg piece this morning suggests that Apple will announce its plans for an ARM Mac at WWDC, even though the first model won't be available until next year. That makes perfect sense. This is a big shift, and developers need time to understand the implications and make plans to support the new platform. The big question right now is how much Apple will reveal, and how useful the information will be for consumers waiting to upgrade their… [ 764 more words ]

Dude, you are conflating two things. New iMac is coming to WWDC. The ARM processor and ARM Macs will probably be discussed to get the developer community moving but will not go on sale. ARM will likely appear in lighter duty applications first, not iMac.

That’s not what the article says, article says new iMac will be unveiled but not released till next year

With the delayed shipping times I do believe they are going to release a new iMac. I really want one and will trade in my old 27" but I will have to see what apps work with the new ARM processors (It sounds like they are switching from Intel).

ARM is not coming to the iMac being released on the June 22. They will indeed be intel. It will be a few years before ARM comes to iMac. There are many journalist reports and comments on this forum supporting the likelihood that ARM will start in the light duty Macs - Macbook or MacBook Air type products.

I have the 6 core 2019 model and I was tempted to the point that I put it on ebay last night but then changed my mind.
I gotta wait and see if there are any issues with it. Only then I will make the decision.

the 21" is not delayed, std. 27" configs are available for immediate pickup at Apple stores here in California. It is the online store that has extended lead times on BTO 27" only. It could be due to the shortage in displays or other parts. I would not bet on the lead times being a sign for a new Mac coming.

Also, from a marketing position, would you really announce a shift to ARM AND announce a brand new product using a soon to be obsolete chipset at the same time? I would argue it makes sense to refresh the existing design with a few new options and shift to a brand new design and chipset next year.

How do you know it'll be Intel?

Only some models and years are eligible for trade-ins. The 2019 iMac might be eligible at some point after a 2020 is released.

A redesigned iMac with some new components will predictably have the year-over-year improvements. I don't get the sense that you're at the limits of the 2019 iMac's performance, so I don't think there's much of a utility argument to be made.

I think the underlying question is can you live with the old design when the new hotness comes out. I get that. I'm persuaded by that too. Tough call. Not knowing how well you bought the 2019 iMac, my off the wall guess is you could lose $1,000 in a spec-for-spec, used-to-new transition if you do it at launch - there probably won't be much discounting for awhile. $1,000 impacts different people differently.

If I were in your shoes, since you just made this investment I'd press pause. Let it unfold and let it marinate. See how good the reviews come in and monitor the potential first year defects. You can always pull the trigger on it later.
Cooling. If the cooling in the new iMac is improved, that alone makes it worth it. My i9 iMac is LOUD. I need the performance, but it’s just way too loud.

Can someone explain this - I was curious what my 2019 iMac might fetch so I entered my serial number on the apple.ca site which led me to this link: https://phobio.com/tradein/apple-ca/

However, the outcome lists my iMac as an i9 256GB model when in fact I have an i5 512GB

What gives?
Do you know why the 2019 models are not showing on my side? In the US. Apple’s trade in verification only goes up to 2017 models.
