Is it just the BTO iMacs that are taking a long time?

If I order a standard, non-customised model from the Apple online store will it come quickly? (in the UK)

A plane's worth of Macs are/were held in customs abroad.
Standard configurations are made much closer.

Here's my update:

Yesterday my estimated delivery date was Nov 14.

I just logged on on to check the status of my order. I now have my Carrier Tracking Number, and the Assigned Carrier says UK DISTRIBUTION CENTER....

BUT my estimated delivery date is now NOV 22!! Surely it can't take 7-9 days to deliver it from a UK Distribution Center!

This has gotten a little bit out of hand. I've seen people being offered iPod Radio Remotes as compensation that magically disappear off the account notes the next day. Is it so hard to deliver a computer from one part of the world to another in this day and age?
It's been a week since it said "Shipment delayed" for the first time and that was after it took a week to ship because all I wanted extra was a wireless mouse.

Apparently the call centres are dealing with a lot of calls regarding this and I'm not surprised because there's no other efficient way of finding out what is going on. I received an e-mail days ago saying it should be here by tomorrow but I really doubt that now.
What I must say, though, is that I'm really impressed by Apple's call team over the last few days. Both of the people that I've spoken to have been as helpful as possible regarding this matter. I'm just sorely disappointed with Apple's representation in other ways.

Up and running..

I received my iMac 24" yesterday at 9:30AM. It was running by 9:45AM with Tiger. Dropped in Leopard and then migrated my old 20" disk to the new one. Finished about 4:00PM or so. Some missing stuff in the transfer but have recovered most and now running smoothly.

This thing is bigger than in looks like in the stores. Great screen and regardless of what people say about the keyboard (wireless) it is great. I touch type and have adapted easily and quickly to the layout. No yellow screen or freezes of any kind. Graphics look fantastic!

Hope all get their new units quickly...

Well, I called UPS as the delivery status hasn't changed in 3 days ("In transit from Alaska to Ontario"). I'm told that that the delivery date will be met, but no sooner as it's being sent by truck!

Did you complain and get compensation? Who did you call/how did you do it? Because I am ready to write a complaint myself - or maybe call them? The updates given of the shipment are poor and i've been sitting around home doing nothing more than waiting for my iMac all week - and they have told me everytime I call "it's coming tomorrow!"

I did notice the status of my order is now in the NL Distribution Centre, does anyone know how long it takes from the distribution centre until I get it?

Thanks!

/Martin

ok everyone....

I have some good news.....

My iMac Arrived!! No warning, got a call from the store where I was buying it from to say it arrived, so I left work a bit early and went and picked it up....my old 19" monitor now looks so tiny.

Mine had the drop in DVD not pre-installed. Which is weird because the hard drive only went in last week.

So much for the apple video on their website that specifically states that ALL macs come with leopard pre-installed.

Eitherway I have the leopard drop in disc running at the moment. So far it looks like I was lucky enough to get one of the good screens. However haven't really tested it yet.

Another update....

Last night i received my UPS tracking number. My iMac and iPod are on schedule to be delivered tomorrow. Not the 22nd.

About time!

I asked what they're doing for their customers and they did offer compensation.
Mine currently reports that it's in the UK Distribution Centre. I'm wondering the same thing.

I called Apple today. No news yet, it hasn't arrived at the delivery company (TNT) yet, so no tracking number either. They're going to call me when there's any news.

My order is now listed with TNT but nothing is reported at the TNT website except for the place it's being shipped to.

 I ordered mine via my university website on the 26th to qualify for the Ipod offer. I only added a wireless keyboard and mouse to the 20" 2.4. The original delivery date stated 13th November. After many phone calls to apple (the one yesterday resulted in a £40 refund) I am still none the wiser. My account details now show a delivery date of the 22nd. Is anyone else expecting a delivery to the UK and if so, what are your dates ???. My reference number is not found on TNT or UPS yet, and apple store-online employees seem less informed then me.

Being an impatient sort I ordered mine yesterday from Jigsaw 24. I ordered at 16:30 and within an hour I had an email to say it had been dispatched!!

It should arrive today hopefully :D

[edit] - My wife just called and it's arrived!! 18 hours from ordering to delivery - awesome.

Still WAITING

Ordered my 24" from MacZone on Oct 26th. 3 weeks later and they still can't tell me when they will have them. I'm quite irritated as when I ordered they said they had them in stock. For the last 2 weeks I have called them everyday and they always say they expect them (insert date here) which is always 2 days away. This is the last time I purchase from Zones.

I would cancel the order but I purchased under a business lease and really don't want to go through all that again.

The iMac finally arrived this evening! (Placed order on November 5th):

My mini is on its way, about 50km away from here according to the TNT tracking page.

EDIT: it has arrived. Now I've got a mini stack (Belkin Switch2, mini G4 and mini C2D) :)

I've gotten my imac 24" now, i've been using it for hours and have not had a single problem with it. (although i didn't realise how far you have to push the disc in for it to actually work and for about 5 minutes I thought I had a bad disc drive). I'm still going to complain about the way they handled the delay, but as for the hardware - wow!! :) My only complaint, which is very minor, is that the wireless keyboard looks akward next to the monstrosity of the iMac, and it could use a couple more keys too. ;)

Well I ordered mine over the phone yesterday morning and it just arrived today!! :) (I'm in the UK).

I ordered the 24" 2.4 with no upgrades (I ordered 4GB from that US store - so that will probably arrive a week or two later).

This is my first "proper" mac - I've had a second hand 12" pb for a while which has been pretty much donated to the girlfriend. I've bought this to replace my (much more graphically powerful) PC, but I never play games anymore so the move makes sense.

The big brown cardboard box is sitting here ready to be opened. :)

P.S. I was told on the phone at the time of odering that leopard will be a drop-in and definately would not come pre-installed.

P.P.S Apologies to those still waiting. ;-)

My 20'' iMac finally arrived yesterday. Annoying that I am working away till Friday so can't even open it till Sat.

It took a while though - I ordered on 2nd Nov. And it had been sat with UPS in a depot 24 miles from my house since 13th.

Anyway, can't wait to get home from work at the weekend to have a play. I've had a MacBook for about 18 months but this will be my first desktop Mac I've had.

It was BTO, so maybe why it took a little longer than I was expecting.
