Do you really have to do that? I thought I set up my iPhone 12 Pro Max last year by restoring a backup made on my iPhone 7 Plus with iOS 13. But now that I write this I’m not sure anymore…
You have to be on the same iOS on both devices, You cant restore iOS12 back ups onto a new device with iOS 13 :)

It’s actually the opposite. You can’t restore iOS 15 back ups on iOS 14 devices but you certainly can restore back ups from previous iOS to the new one.

Yes, @SoYoung is right. I thought this sounded unfamiliar so I actually contacted Apple support on chat and they confirmed this: you can restore a backup made on iOS 14 on a device running iOS 15.

Even ApleInc isn't promoting day 1 installation (for the first time in history). The software update link for iOS 15 is now buried at the bottom of the software update page - and you've got to actually scroll down to find it cuz it's hidden.
That's a HUGE improvement.

Not sure why I was saying 12 and 13 lol, I had the phones in my head. I was saying if your current phone is on iOS14 and you buy the new phone which ships with iOS15, you will not be able to bring the cloud restore from your old phone if both are not using iOS15, Yes you can downgrade but not move iOS14 backups to iOS15. Sorry for the confusion.

I'm sorry but I think you are still confusing it. It works fine to make a backup on your current phone running iOS 14, and then restore it on a new phone running iOS 15. In other words, you do not need to update your old phone to iOS 15 just to make a backup that'll work on the new iPhone 13. That's what the Apple rep confirmed.

Still on 14.8. Gratified that I've not heard any show stopping bugs with 15.0 from people here and on 'the internet'.

On the fence whether to wait until 14.1 or to take the plunge in the next few days - if I keep on hearing good reports.

It's been a week. How is iOS 15 working? Safe to install now or keep waiting for 15.1?

Me and mine have had zero issues with it on any of our devices. Works great. They actually improved Siri Handsfree; it works MUCH better in my car (2018 Outback). It was pretty flaky before. I haven't had any CarPlay issues either as some have reported.

I always prefer to wait for at minimum the first incremental update and sometimes longer depending on what I read. It's never going to be perfect right out of the gate. Ever. No matter how hard they work, it takes time to identify problems and implement fixes.

Agreed. But the complaints have really tapered off here so I am guessing it is pretty safe for my 2020 SE.
By the way, I love your JGB icon!

The battery seems worse on my XS Max since iOS 15. The phone warm easily while doing basic tasks but performance wise, it seems okay so far.

On my 2018 11' iPad pro with 6GB of ram, apps reload way more frequently in the background compared to 14 at a point its not as enjoyable to use for me. But other than that it perform as smooth as 14.

I didn't update because of Csam and because the only feature i would want to have is the integrated text scanning in pictures.

But my iPad 5 doesn't get this feature (where it makes sense to me working with office files), so it makes no sense to update my phone to 15. If both stay on 14.8 i will have no issues in connectivity.
