I say thY because the guy doesn't even cover that verizon is on a CDMA network and iPhone uses GSM so either verizon or apple needs to fix that huge hurdle. This rumor is out every month. Maybe someday but not 6 months.

Nobody knows what will happen next year, especially an analyst. It's Apple's choice. As far as using CDMA, it is not difficult at all. They just use different chips. If it was so hard smaller companies like RIM wouldn't be doing it. It is best that Apple end these exclusivity deals as soon as possible.

Sorry, but it won't happen. Steve Jobs has a long term memory, it will very likely remember the Droid ads from Verizon.

If the iPhone opens up to verizon, Apple will sell many more iphones.

This would also bring in many more new mac customers.

Why does anyone think that Steve Jobs is going to decline all that revenue just because Verizon hurt his feelings by posting some ads that pointed out what they perceive to be the iphone's shortcomings?

It's business.

Boy that's for sure...that would almost be as bad as using an Intel chip...he certainly would never......what...he already used Intel chips? Well I'll be.....

I'll keep my fingers crossed. ATT isn't horrible where I am, but with the sheer numbers of defectors that are moving over really do it'll take a lot of load off their towers, which is good for everyone

4G is LTE, and is directly where the iPhone, AT&T and Verizon are heading.
Maybe the next gen iPhone won't be 4G, but the one after most likely will be.

Apple will build a phone for Verizon. It just won't be the iPhone.

EDIT: Was properly called out for not having proof of the 5 year non-CDMA agreement. I wasn't able to find hard proof on the internet. I've heard this through several AT&T regional managers, however that doesn't justify posting it without official proof. I apologize.

However, I still stand by comment that the iPhone will not hit Verizon at least until they roll out LTE. A nationwide rollout isn't planned till 2011. I'm not going to reference this as Google will link you to dozens of articles stating this as fact.

If I was making cellphones I wouldn't support CDMA2000....especially if it meant dealing with control freak carriers like verizon. Sigh ....I always thought apple was the type to caitor to the people but with there exclusive contracts it seams like the opposite....RIM on ther other hand seams like they caitor to the customer. I mean there new blackberry has a quint band UMTS radio....

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't happen for a few more years until Verizon is LTE.

Also, if Verizon isn't giving Apple the same subsidies as AT&T, iPhone should be more expensive for Verizon customers. That would be interesting to test the Verizon fanboys whether they're willing to actually fork over an extra $200 for the privilege.

I just wanted to throw out there that it gets tiring hearing things like "not going to happen", "Forget it", "Keep dreaming". I'm not picking any particular user but apple is going to go where the money is. As far as service goes I have verizon and that is the only thing that works where I live, out here in the sticks. I've tried them all. I have been hearing from people that are on both sides of the fence, especially on the apple side. Things coming out like apple will do what is best for them even if it is walking away from at&t. So as far as "not going to happen." You'll be the first one surprised when it does.

Riiiiight... when they've only rolled out their 4G LTE network in about 35 cities. Maybe more like 2nd half of 2012.

I will be surprised if the iPhone hits Verizon in the next two years. After that, I won't be. (See: LTE)

I won't be surprised if an Apple phone hits Verizon in the next two years. Just my thoughts.

apple isn't going to make any more money with verizon than it would with AT&T. and as long as the iPhone isn't on boost mobile, it's going to make a ton of money for it's carrier, so apple is going to stick with the carrier who gives them the biggest cut of the profits, which is AT&T

and those 'there's a map for that' adds stretch the truth about their coverage, so just cuz they have '3G' in North Dakota, that doesn't mean people are going to want verizon. AT&T has faster 3G in the major markets, which means people will want that more, and more iPhones will be bought

Huge hurdle? Seriously? Phone companies have been making GSM/CDMA phones for years now. How is HTC, RIM, Palm, Nokia, and Motorola able to do it but for Apple it's a huge hurdle?

Steve Jobs is also the CEO of a company and his first duty is to the shareholders. If his sole purpose of losing out on hundreds of millions of dollars of revenue is due to his irritation at a marketing campaign then he should be fired as CEO by the board at Apple.
