I've only had my 3GS for one day, and I so far so good. I had a Verizon for 4 years, could not talk in the back part of the building where I worked or use my data. Today with At&t I could do anything I wanted. I've also maintained my 3G signal the whole day.

I've had T-Mobile in the past and it was awful for me.

I'll check back later when I use my 3GS downtown.

Just go with makes you happy I suppose.

EDIT: Was properly called out for not having proof of the 5 year non-CDMA agreement. I wasn't able to find hard proof on the internet. I've heard this through several AT&T regional managers, however that doesn't justify posting it without official proof. I apologize.

When the iPhone first came out, a Verizon executive scoffed at the idea of people being "stuck with ATT for five years". From that joke, a USA Today reporter claimed there was a "five year contract".

When the iPhone 3G came out in 2008, it was "revealed" that the first contract was only a year, and the provision about Apple getting people's subsidy money was being dropped. Supposedly the exclusive was renewed for two years, which made sense.

In addition, ATT has been talking about what will happen when the exclusive ends, so altogether it seems reasonable that it ends in summer 2010.

Yes, it's all been hearsay and secondhand, but 2010 at least makes sense.

apple isn't going to make any more money with verizon than it would with AT&T. and as long as the iPhone isn't on boost mobile, it's going to make a ton of money for it's carrier, so apple is going to stick with the carrier who gives them the biggest cut of the profits, which is AT&T

You seem to think that Apple would change entirely to Verizon. The end of the exclusive simply means that the iPhone would be on both carriers. So yes, absolutely Apple would make more money. Twice as much, most likely, unless Android is too entrenched by then.

I honestly think for as long as the iPhone exists and it's allowed by the law, it will always be just with AT&T.
