I just wanted to add this gem for consideration:

4. 64-bitness: Leopard is the first 64-bit only version of a desktop client. Vista comes in 32-bit and 64-bit varieties. And most expect Windows Seven will still be available in 32-bit flavors. Until 32-bit machines go away, it seems like a good idea to offer 32-bit operating systems.

It's a good point. How can I argue with that logic? ;) :D

well she sure is glum.

But you cant say leopard doesn't like similar to vista.

the transparent menu bar, and the grass wallpaper.

but its functionality is still very different. Also vista looks like its got meat on its bones, its all a bit chunky and OTT in some cases, XP was similar. I feel that even if vista hadn't come out, leopard would still have looked like this, I don't think it was copied necessarily. OS 10.5 looks more slender, sleek, subtle in its design, which is what i love about apple's designs.

i didnt like the menu bar much to start with, but the more i look at it the more i like it, vista looked good, but to me leopard makes it look slightly dated as everything is just done to perfection (visual wise).

the fact is:
they both copy each other.

1. transparent menu bar existed in linux last century.
2. shadow copy in windows 2003
3. animated max/min first in OSX

etc, etc

the difference is:

apple knows how to accuse of other ppl copying apple. while M$ doesn't see that as a big deal, which I agree. copy this, copy that, how about looking back and see how much apple copied from others.

how much of OSX/Safari's code is written by apple? who dare to say M$'s shadow copy didn't give any inspiration for time machine? "sorta ZFS" isn't from SUN? resize text input field in safari 3? why do I find it already in Netscape 9?

This world is getting better by helping and learning from each other, not from making accusations with double standard. apple, get a life and grow up

Couldn't agree more.

One thing I rate about Microsoft is, to my knowledge, not only have they never put down Apple but they've only ever had good things to say about Apple. Gates especially.

This looks so much better. You can only get so far rubbishing another companies products, and all the while you look like an idiot in a weak position doing it. Nobody wants to hear you talk about how totally crap that company is around the corner, they want to know what YOU got to show.

Apple went through this when Steve came back. 'We need to loose the idea that for Apple to win, Microsoft has to loose'. Where the hell did that thinking go. Out when Bootcamp came in? We can run anything now, time to rubbish Microsoft again and look like a bunch of morons!

Gaaaaahhhhh. 99% of my posts are negative towards Apple lately and I've been a loyal user (and had a Mac as my main machine) for over ten years. This is dark times as far as I'm concerned.

Yep, Apple copied from Xerox, M$ copies from Apple, then there are other copies like BeOS, NextStep, Ubuntu, everyone copies from everyone else.

Look at the audacity of the auto industry, everyone copying the car, 4 wheels, speedometer, glove box....

Not to mention airplanes...:p

Gates perhaps. But have you never heard some of the things Steve Ballmer has said about some of Apple's products?

Gosh, is he an idiot. He really makes up for the lack of criticism from Bill Gates.

Let's not forget functionality. Coming from a person who has used both Vista and OS X for work and play, I can honestly say OS X runs a lot smoother. OS X runs multiple applications without running into any snags and going from one application to another is a breeze.

I felt very hampered when using Vista, such as that whole "allow or deny" thing (I realize you can take that function off) but I didn't have the desire or interest in figuring out their prefrences.

I can't point every single annoyance I ran into when using Vista, but I can assure you there were many.

As for that article, it's complete trash.

So wait... Leopard copied Vista which copied Tiger?

And who is guilty here :p
