Glad to hear she is doing better and making progress. That is great news.

As for the lawyer, and I realize I know nothing of the circumstances here other than the serious nature of your wife's injury and what will likely be lifelong consequences because of the accident, that settlement seems very low.

I'm glad to hear that things are getting better.

Not sure if you had medical insurance before, but if your wife has it, the situation might help, some of my company work before will offer the insurance.

The guy had liability only and he was from SC and they allow 20k bodily injury as the lowest amount. Plus He had a bankruptcy filing go through only 3 weeks before he hit us. So he has zero assets. Our lawyer fought for more for the last month. But that was all they could get from him. It's BS. She almost dies 2 times and we still have to pay. Just not right.

In a coffee shop.
That sucks. Here in the UK the NHS would have picked up medical bills. We are very lucky here to have universal care for all.

Exactly.

I cannot praise the NHS - and the concept of (state funded) universal health care - enough.

It was absolutely invaluable when my mother was ill, and earlier, during my father's decline, as well.

Plus, there are (or, we have) schemes whereby the local authority will also pay (or fund) 90% of the cost for installing showers, hand rails etc that are deemed necessary for health reasons.
Hope you are taking some time for yourself as well. It's just as important as looking after your wife. Hope she continues to make progress.
Agreed, and allow me to echo this.

I’m pleased to hear that your wife is making some progress after all she’s been through. I can imagine how frustrated and annoyed you both are about the insurance claim.

I wondered if she qualified for any assistance. I came across the following website, but I’m not sure if it’s relevant to your circumstances as I don’t live in the US:
https://www.olmsteadrights.org/self...sability_Resources_and_Advocacy_Organizations

You mentioned that you need a walk-in shower, handrail, etc. There’s some information here that says the NC Department of Health and Human Services offers home improvements under their Supportive Services programs:
