Okay, guys, so I can't run the monitor in 10bit colour depth (in Adobe RGB) on the Mac Pro with the GT120. But I can with the Asus card, right? Because if not, all has been for nothing. I obviously didn't buy an Eizo with a 10bit panel to run as an 8bit. So please tell me the Asus card will work!

Yes, it will work with any modern GPU, like the RX 560.

RX-560 have DP1.4a/HDMI 2.0b connections and 10bpc support, both with RGB and YPbPr color spaces.

Phew. Thank you!!

Won't work with any type of DVI cables or DP1.1, and even some DP1.2, cables. Buy good quality DP1.4a/HDMI 2.0b cables, also don't buy cables that have different connections on each end.

Right. DP 1.4 to DP 1.4 or HDMI 2.0 to HDMI 2.0. Understood. What are good quality cables? Is there a particular brand I should look at maybe?

There is a whole forest of cables out there. How do I choose?

There are good quality generic HBR3 DP1.4 cables with very reasonable prices, like this one below that I'm using the 2M version right now:

Avoid cables with more than 2M lenght wise for HBR2 and greater resolutions. If you really need more, you will need a premium cable, since the DP spec don't require that cables with more than 2M offer the same bandwidth that the spec defines for 2M ones:

The DisplayPort standard does not specify any maximum length for cables, though the DisplayPort 1.2 standard does set a minimum requirement that all cables up to 2 meters in length must support HBR2 speeds (21.6 Gbit/s), and all cables of any length must support RBR speeds (6.48 Gbit/s).[39]: §5.7.1, §4.1  Cables longer than 2 meters may or may not support HBR/HBR2 speeds, and cables of any length may or may not support HBR3 speeds.

Two meters is plenty. 1.80 or even 1.50 would do. Okay then, I have a cable. Now all I need to do is wait for the card and the 6pin power cable to arrive.

I can't thank you enough for all your help. And your patience. 🙏

Update: a funny thing happened. The dual-link DVI cable came just now. I connected it and the monitor is now working as it should. I get the full resolution at 60hz. Lightroom and Photoshop are a little bit slower than I'm used to but not too much, it's still workable. This will tie me over just fine.

I'm still going to install the card though.

You are getting 60Hz with 10bpp? With RGB or YPbPr?

This is a surprise.

No, you are right of course! With the dual-link DVI cable I seem to be stuck at 8bit and in the monitor's native colour mode as changing the colour mode doesn't change anything. But at least I have the resolution now, that's something. I'm really happy to at least have that as it enables me to assess the focus and sharpness of my images. And in two to three weeks the new graphics card will be here and then I will be able to calibrate the monitor. Colours look good to my eye though so I'm quite content with this temporary solution.

Ah, ok. The DVI dual-link port don't have the bandwidth for your display resolution with 10bpp, nor the GT120 supports it.

You will be surprised how snappy the interface will be with the RX 560 GPU. The GT120 with your current resolution is almost unbearable slow.

Btw, it's one of the things that you notice for real if you downgrade after using the new one for some time, then the GT120 will be un-acceptable. :p

LOL yeah, right now I don’t know any better! 🤣

I’m really looking forward to the new card.

It works just as expected. What's so funny about that? :)
