Those of you familiar with Asus phones in general, which are the best/most recent phones right now? (are any available in Canada?)

Their naming system has me so lost...Zenfone 4 then 6...then 5? Now 2?
Zenfone 4, 5, and 6 were released last year and the number were based on their screen size. Asus also quietly released Asus Zenfone 5 lite and Zenfone 4.5 in certain markets. Zenfone 2 looks to be their model for 2015 but Asus tends to release variants of it as well. Yeah, it can be confusing as I am still figuring out why Huawei named their phablet with near 6-inch screen the Ascend Mate 7.

Check Amazon for availability. Asus started off making smartphone/tablet hybrids with the Padfone series. Then they went 7-inches with the Fonepad series. But in fairness, their phones are quite solidly built like their Taiwanese neighbors, HTC. When I tried comparing the Xiaomi Redmi 1S vs Asus Zenfone 5, the latter had the better display and camera. I would go far to say the Zenfone (5/6) series is a better deal than the Moto G's and the $100 Zenfone 4 is a better deal than the Moto E.

Asus Zenfone 2 could be the best phone money can buy in 2015.

They are using Intel which is top dog in desktop but still unproven in the mobile SoC world. Two underdogs teaming up. Asus have been making motherboards since the 80's. The first time I saw a company use Intel on a smartphone was from the Lenovo K900 two years ago. Based on AnTuTu, the Zenfone 5 hit 21k which is only 4k less than the HTC One M7 and the Z5 was only $160! And the camera quality is pretty good to boot. The Zenfone 4 & 5 were better than the Moto E & G of last year.

Beware of Asus. Even Archos copied some of the design from the Zenfone 5 with the 50 Diamond. Xiaomi and Asus are the brands to look for in the sub-$300 unlocked segment.

One of the three areas I mentioned in the HTC Revenue thread to improve on is keeping the price competitive since it can now be a price-driven market. Both Xiaomi and Asus are the only ones consistently excelling at now that the Google Nexus 6 is no longer a bargain hunter's dream.
