I really like the design including the metal keys. The overall design is pretty close to the mba. Often it is mentioned that Apple can't put an Intel Core i7 in the 11 mba but how comes that Asus can?

Wow, I have to say, wow!

This really is the first laptop I'd genuinely consider over the current MacBook Air.

No offense OP but the whole "Competition is good" thing is getting seriously old. Its in every thread it seems.

Its only competition to people who want Windows.

And roughly 90% of people use Windows. At the end of the day, OS X can't do anything that Windows can't. Not everyone's decisions are driven by the OS or actually, there are quite a few people who are forced to run Windows since the software they need is not available for OS X.

This "it doesn't have OS X" thing is getting even older.

Anyone have anything else? I take it that the only GPU is Intel?

As mentioned above, it's quite comical how closely it resembles the Air's design! Nevertheless, this'll be the one I'll recommend to my Windows-only pals.

hmm seems worth to buy , performace is there and look good too, after all ASUS laptops are the most reliable laptops on the market .. i said laptops not netbooks ;)

btw is it does not run OSX a problem , if the specs are right it will be hackintoshable
and if one does not like windows , i have to say windows came a long way with windows7 and windows8 is around the corner like OSX LION
and there is always LINUX which gets better with every release of whichever distro you choose and its free
i would actually like to see manufacturers of desktops and laptops giving the customers a chance to decide which OS they want instead of preinstalling one

At least we know Apple has to live up to the specs in the competition like this ASUS...not talking about the design here...

The internal specs are way ahead of Apple's AIR's.

So I want to see in the next AIR's or I won't be interested...

Thunderbolt
New CPU without running hot.

So far, competition had the same price if not higher than Apple. If this is around 700-800 then it will surely be a big hit for the Air.
Competitors aren't playing catch-up like in the tablet war here. I am curious what Apple will do with the next revision. If it will be a smaller one then I'll pass and wait for the 2012 one.

I think we can assume Intel HD 3000, but the fact that it has an i7 and possibly a non LV or ULV version of the chip is mind boggling. Now I just hope for a respectable SSD size.

If they keep this thing below $1500 this would seriously cripple MBA business.

What's amazing about it? Cripple the MBA business?? LOL

This is the crap that's getting old ... these ridiculous posts every time someone see's something that resembles the MBA....

Three's years after the fact, nothing but time to reverse engineer the 'original' and who's got it right yet? Nobody.

Long live the original MacBook Air ... Go away with with the knock offs and those who support them.

Okay first of all let me just say, pretty biased post. I think it looks quite amazing, it seems at least as thin, as the current MBA probably has about the same weight, but it's a windows machine and it has a less "girly" (to some) look, which could be a major selling point.

The looks of it however is very very similar to that of the MBA thinking Apple might go and sue for this, since the ports are placed almost exactly like that on the MBA.

At $1500 no doubt it could cut into the MBA's sales. (1500 dollars is what an 11inch base model costs in Denmark).

Not everyone buys a computer based on the OS. Most computer users buy a computer to execute tasks. Tasks which can be equivalently executed by Linux, Windows or OS X.

"It doesn't run OS X" is getting old and it's as irrelevant now as it ever was. And heck, I'd run Linux on that thing. ;)

Of course they are, the Air shipped in October 2010. This is slated to ship around September 2011, almost a year later. Why are you comparing specs at this point ?

Let's at least wait for the Air refresh and this to be released to start the comparison game. We don't even have pricing info on the Asus.

The next MBA will have the same Intel GPU. The Macbook Pro 13" does.

competition is always good and even if some dont like it there are good developers or engineers outside cupertino
and Apple had it in recent years far to easy catching people with iPhones and iPads with iOS to sell them MacBooks and iMac's with OSX was for most a no brainer
but since android in the phone market is taking over and even netbbooks and tablets are found with android already

microsoft strenghtend its position with windows7 and windows8 waiting in 2012 already and rumors say it will become a OS for everything from mobile phone over tablet pc to laptops and gaming rigs
PC makers try now too to design computers and laptops that are userfriendly and pleasing to the eye

and reliability charts place Apple not in a leading position just a bit more reliable then dell , but worse then sony ,toshiba and asus

and with all the complains in and around the iMac Apple wont lead te reliability charts in the desktop market either
