AT&T Coverage in your area

Hi all thought I would start a topic about AT&T coverage in your area because I hear many people complain about AT&T coverage.

We live in deep South Jersey originally from Philadelphia and most of my time on AT&T and iPhone is at work in Philadelphia where coverage is excellent as well in New Jersey.

Philadelphia Metro area: excellent coverage including 3G. Very very few dropped calls. Customer service in my opinion is pretty good.

The coverage is great in my area (DTC Colorado), but since AT&T started upgrading their software on their antenna's I get dropped calls all the time. Its getting very annoying and might send me back to Verizon.

I was talking to AT&T rep bout that and he's the one that brought it up. He said once upgrades are done the problems will be fixed.

It's the cost of growth.

Sigh.... I'm not switching overnight. I have four lines so that will buy them some time until the contracts are up.

I just returned from Los Angeles (Disneyland) and holy crap my signal went all over the place. I ended up putting my phone on Edge cause of the battery drain. I understand when losing signal cause of getting on a ride but to be stationary at the food area and one second full 3G and the next GONE... :eek:

Glad I don't live there ;) I would say one of the main contributing factors to switching would be to try a different phone. I've had the iphone since its initial release. Currently my iphone is Jailbroken to get the themes and tethering so I have that alteast.
 
My coverage has always been outstanding...I'm rarely at anything less than 5 bars in my apartment which is fantastic because I work from home. However, the last week and a half or so it has been spotty at best. I dropped 2 conference calls I was hosting on Friday, which was more than slightly embarrassing. According to AT&T, there was some kind of issue in the area involving multiple towers and there was no ETA on a fix which is, of course, unacceptable. (I understand that problems happen and in the past when they've occurred, they've always been resolved within a few hours. The first time I reported the issue was Monday, I think, and by Friday it was no better. Ugh.)

As of right now, I'm showing 5 bars, probably because I called to order residential phone service as backup for my iPhone today. ;)
 
Not sure the intent of this thread is, since opinions of AT&T coverage can vary greatly by even neighboring cities.
 
I live in the Temecula area of Southern Cali and the AT&T coverage is good. There are a few bad spots but once you learn them you just deal with it.

I just got back from Vegas this past week and even though I had full bars and 3G service all weekend the bandwidth was horrible. Loss of data connectivity in apps all the time pages not loading at all. I was shocked to see how bad it was with great reception. Was pretty much unusable for most things.

I know exactly what you mean! I was there with a roaming SIM that could connect to both AT&T and T-Mobile and it was hilarious; you could watch the phone and see it switch between AT&T GSM, AT&T WCDMA and T-Mobile every 20 seconds :p
 
I live in western PA and the signal here is a joke for us. I don't know if its because there is so many mountains but its also crap for verizon. You can have service in-town then maybe drive a mile away and then its gone.

I find this startling. I live in the sticks and AT&T has pretty spotty service. But to be in a big city and have dead spots? Unacceptable really.
 
I live in Albuquerque and every carrier has great coverage (from my experience). They all seem to have their tough spots on campus, however.

Thanks for this. A friend and I--both with iPhones--going to be there in early May. We'll jump on Edge when we get to the park.
 
I live in Columbus Ohio and it's not to bad. My house has great reception, but my work is another story. Outside the building, full five bars, inside the left side of the building,0- 1 bar, in the break room, no service, right side of the building 4-5 bars. Building is about 40 yards wide. All I know is that when I had sprint, I had service everywhere in the building including the vault, my buddies on verizon have full service everywhere, but me and the other "iphoner" there have the same issue. I would say that the buildings construction may have something to do with it, but if that were the case, then why would sprint and verizon work? I have full bars right outside the front doors, you'd think I'd get 3-4 bars inside!
 
Coverage here in the Broomfield Colorado area has improved allot since September and I don't think I have had a dropped call since then.

It's the data speed that is weird. In the daytime, I get about 400-700Kbps but at night, I average just under 3Mbps.
 
A while back there was a member maintaining a map with reported locations and signal strength experiences from all members who would post their information. It was a great map, but I don't know what's happened to it.
 
I live in Fort Worth, TX. Service here is pretty spotty. I drop a lot of calls and have problems with call quality quite frequently, too.

Crossing everything I possibly can, but it looks like my signal may be back to normal today; hasn't dropped below 5 bars yet. Thank goodness, because I have conference calls all afternoon and would really prefer not to have to dial into each one 3 times.
 
Here is an interesting opinion on CNET about AT&T's femtocell plans and why the writer thinks they should be included free with cell phone service. I think he has a great point and it would improve my opinion of AT&T's service immensely.
 
I originally lived in Memphis Tn.. At first service was ok..not great. but very usable.. Now i live in babson park, fl for school.. On campus i get edge.. down the road full blown 3g.. In 3g coverage here, I HAVE NO PROBLEMS!! no dropped calls.. On edge, sometimes i get internet, sometimes i dont...
I rectly went home back to Memphis. Service their has improved greatly. Full bars of 3g, no more dropped calls.. faster internet

are you on 3.1.3?
 
Coverage in western New York, from what I remember, was pretty good. I had several friends who had Big Blue, and loved it - never lost a signal (and this is a more rural area than not)

It was a toss up: Everyone had either Verizon or AT&T. Both said they were good for coverage, but the consensus was that Verizon customer service sucker big time.
