I am in South Jersey as well. Cherry Hill to be exact. I drop calls all of the time. Worst part is, in the same spots. I find myself driving around dead spots to avoid a dropped call.

I also drop calls with full 5 bar 3G.

I am going back to VZW this week. Whats the point of a cool phone that doesn't even work?

Call and complain about the service

I am in the Hudson valley region of new York state. former cellular One area. Service here is edge only, with 3 iPhones and the text plan I am getting screwed. Called AT&T and was informed that capital improvements are six months away(fingers crossed). The rep heard me out and offered to knock one hundred dollars off of my bill for a month.

If you are unhappy with the service express your concerns to AT&T.

ATT Coverage

I live just east of Memphis, TN and the coverage has always been great. Yes I do believe it has gotten better over the last couple of years since the iPhone has come out. I think it will continue to improve.

I have NO service in my Apartment, I have to sit by the window or walk outside, I have been thinking about getting one of those mini towers or whatever. I am right in town too, so I dont know what the deal is.

Hi we live not too far from you, Westville. And service is great pretty much all over South Jersey.

Im in CA, about an hour from San Francisco and after hearing all the reports of bad service, I dreaded switching to AT&T. I still think they are overpriced, but their reception has been stellar. There is a cell tower about 30 meters from my house and i'm thinking it must be AT&T because my reception is so darn good.

I'm in Southern California about an hour north of San Diego. Coverage here is spotty at best. I have no service at all in my house or the block surrounding it. My city has two main streets of which I travel equally, one gets great coverage and the other is terrible. The only reason I'm still with AT&T is the iPhone, without it I never would've stuck with them.

actually I have to add a caveat to what I just said. Given that T-Mobile offers unlimited text, voice, and data for only $100 compared to $130 for AT&T, I don't think AT&T is worth it. T-Mobile has ~4/5 bars where I live. I think I can handle the one less bar for $30/mo. At that rate, you end up essentially getting the phone for free in 6 months. Over the two year contract, that's a $720 savings. Now tell me, if someone gave you $720 to switch to a Nexus one with T-mobile instead of your iphone, would you?

Westchester County NY. Reception is terrific. Full signal everywhere. Never a dropped call and full 3G everywhere I travel. One tower less than a quarter mile away (looks like a tree, ha) and another just up about 2 or 3 miles down the road. Love 'em.

Now Verizon, you couldn't pay me to go back to them. Actually I paid them hundreds to get out of my contract and move to AT&T. They were worthless everywhere I went. Never again.....

I'm in Phoenix, Az and most of the time my coverage is great. There are however a few dead spots. But turning my iPhone to edge fixes the problem, and extends the battery life. I almost always have 3G off. One annoying thing is my house happens to be a dead spot, very annoying at times. I plan on getting the microcell when its available.

I wonder how many people on this thread who are experiencing major issues have the iPhone 3G (like myself) rather than the 3GS.

i live in Aurora,CO... Coverage is stellar always have full bars of 3G. I drive to Boulder CO everyday and my coverage is just awesome. I used to have sprint, and t-mobile. Once i stepped in to my building at work my service was non exsistent. With AT&T i have full bars of 3G at my desk which is awesome!

Coverage has vastly improved in Washington, DC and the Northern Virginia 'burbs over the past 4 months or so. I'm very pleased with my service now.

I know exactly what you mean! I was there with a roaming SIM that could connect to both AT&T and T-Mobile and it was hilarious; you could watch the phone and see it switch between AT&T GSM, AT&T WCDMA and T-Mobile every 20 seconds :p

That's odd. I live in South OC, about 20 minutes from Disneyland, and my wife and I have annual passes, so we're there often. In fact, I was just there two weeks ago, and had 5 bars/3G in both parks, all day long. The only time I lost coverage was on some of the rides.

Although, I did notice that one of the ride wait-time apps that I have wouldn't load. One did (DL Wait Times), but the other (Mouse Wait) would never make it past the splash screen. That was a bummer because I like MW much better.

Anyway, I don't do a ton of traveling, but I don't have any coverage issues in my usual stomping grounds.

Damn, I was psyched to try out MW on my trip after having heard good things about it. Oddly enough, one of the Disney World apps I have that always loads great when I'm sitting here at home, 13 hours away, didn't work worth a damn the last time I was in Orlando (WDW Times Guide) which was, of course, when I needed it. Signal strength and all was outstanding, though. I posted Facebook updates from deep inside Space Mountain with no problem.

I'm curious now to see what my coverage will be like at DLR.

Downtown LA, and a bit south of it, has greatly improved. I'm regularly getting 1.3 mbps down and 1.0 mbps up. It's amazing.

I find this startling. I live in the sticks and AT&T has pretty spotty service. But to be in a big city and have dead spots? Unacceptable really.
Think about it for a second, unlike the "sticks", a big city has large concrete and steel structures that mess with the signals.

I live in the Tulsa area and get excellent coverage here. 3G for the most part in and around Tulsa with Edge available once you leave the greater metro and suburban areas. There are very few spotty areas that receive poor coverage or cause you to switch out of 3G into Edge...but these seem to be very brief encounters and few and far between.

Well, earlier in the week my signal strength appeared to have returned to normal, but now I'm down to 1 bar of Edge. Grrrrrr. If they're upgrading in the area, that's fine... as long as the "progress" will eventually come to an end and those of us who actually had excellent coverage before can get it back again. This is really getting old, though.

Ooh wait, I spoke too soon--I'm back up to 3 bars of Edge! Woooo--- damn, back down to 1. Phone's not moving; I can sit and watch it go between 1-4 bars on Edge and suddenly skip up to 3-4 bars of 3G and then drop to Searching... It's infuriating.

Sorry for venting. I now have the utmost empathy for those of you who live in areas where you struggle with this $#@#$ every day.
