AT&T dropped calls lately?

I've been with AT&T since they were pacbell wireless, and have never had a problem. Over the past 2 months everyone I know with AT&T has been getting a ton of dropped calls. Seems like the same pattern.

First call fails with high pitched screetching.
Second call fails silently.
Third call goes through.
Person on the other end gets all 3 calls and thinks you are an idiot.

Location: ca central coast
 
Not one since I got my iPhone back and I live in a pretty crappy area for AT&T service.
 
I'm wondering if AT&T has simply sold more than they can support in my area. It used to be perfect service all the time.
 
I've had every iPhone since June 29th, 2007, and I've yet to have 1 dropped call.

Since people don't seem to grasp this fact, I'll say it again: AT&T doesn't drop calls everywhere; its coverage varies from area to area. The fact that you have dropped calls everyday doesn't mean that everyone does.

OP, maybe you should call AT&T and ask if there's any work being done in the towers in your area?
 
ever since my area got 3g my calls drop left n right, i ended up turning 3g off. Ill prob be turning AT&T off pretty soon as well and just get an itouch

You aren't very good at reading are you? Nowhere in the post you quoted did Small White Car imply that it's universal.

Honestly, people take a second and read a post thoroughly before posting such garbage. I wish people could grasp that ability. ;)
 
I've had dropped calls since I've been with AT&T (I switched when I got the 1st gen iPhone). I was living in Phoenix at the time. I have the exact same dropped calls issue with the 2nd gen in Wisconsin.

Anjinhamarota did, hence her post Just because SWC's calls are getting dropped in D.C. does not mean that my calls in Las Vegas and Sacramento and Omaha get dropped. And for the record, I've only had one dropped call in Sacramento (albeit in a data center), and none in Vegas, Oklahoma City, and Omaha (All of which I frequent).

And I've been with ATT since 2002.

Had a couple dropped calls, but it's not like that never happened with the times I've used T-Mobile, Verizon, Sprint, or when I'm traveling and used foreign SPs.

When did you become a mind reader? Cause I couldn't tell what they meant to do, and neither did anybody else. I agree, that point flew way over your head.

Anyway, I agree with an earlier post stating that since 3G has been introduced into my area, dropped calls are all too common. Never had one dropped call with EDGE. The 3G network is garbage for voice calling. And guess what, it happens EVERYWHERE! Just because a handful of people don't experience something doesn't mean it doesn't happen in your area. Do a google search, you'll learn something.
 
Agreed - more dropped calls lately

I've had AT&T in the Seattle area for 10 years and have had a 3G for the last ~15 months. I've noticed a big increase in dropped calls recently. I never had problems before a couple of months ago. Now I drop probably 33% of my calls at home and never used to. It's sporadic in other areas. Just drops and never shows a decrease in coverage at all---typically stays on full bars of coverage and I get the call failed screen. Very frustrating, especially if you call customer service and wait on hold....and then the call drops. I don't know whether to blame AT&T or the iPhone, but something needs to be fixed.

I'd say, not the phone for sure.

I've had an iphone since day 2 of 1st gen. I got my 3gs on the day it was released. This problem didn't start until a couple of months ago for me and my friends and family on AT&T.

I also have had this service for more than 10 years...from pacbell>cingular>at&t, and this is the first time anything like this has happened. I am very fearful that they have decided that they are willing to overburden their network, and simply accept a 30% drop rate...that would just suck.

and I did call them, and all I got was "everything appears to be normal on our end"...BAD ANSWER!
 
No dropped calls ever at home with the exception of 1 day when AT&T was doing work in the area. That was resolved within about 6 hours or so. I don't know why, but I used to have calls drop fairly regularly on both of the BlackBerries I had before the iPhone, but nary a one since I made the switch.
 
whoever had no dropped calls state your location, in NY there is a 30% call failure and it's considered normal.

To make things clear:"Dropped call is the common term for a wireless mobile phone call that is terminated unexpectedly as a result of technical reasons, including presence in a dead zone.

One reason for a dropped call is when the mobile phone moves out of range of a wireless network. An active call cannot usually be maintained across a different company's network (as calls cannot be re-routed over the traditional phone network while in progress), resulting in the termination of the call once a signal cannot be maintained between the phone and the original network.

Why do I have to be some sort of mind reader when simple logic shows you the point?

I'll be more to the point: SWC's location is Washington DC. The OP's location is Central California Coast.

Explain to me how Washington DC = California.

My point still stands. If I get no dropped calls where I go, the OP gets some dropped calls down the CA coast, SWC gets dropped calls where he's at, common sense tells me there's problems only where the dropped calls are. That doesn't mean everyone everywhere is getting them.

I agree with a couple of the people on here that state that it has only started happening in the last couple of months. I had the 3G from day one and the same with the 3GS, and have had no problems what-so-ever. I first noticed it happening in September. I am in the Baltimore-DC metro area and for a majority of the time have full 3G bars. When I experience dropped calls, it is always with full bars. Lately I have been experiencing 6-10 dropped calls a day, and I always check the bars and 9/10 they are full. Of course there are a couple of dead zones that can be explained but the rest are a mystery. I also travel to Huntsville, AL and experience the same type of scenario there.

Is this a scenario like we had with the 3G where there had to be an update from Apple to adjust the sensitivity of the antenna?
