I've only had dropped calls when I accidentally hung up on the person :p

On a serious note, I haven't had any dropped calls...with my 4-5 years experience with ATT.

To the poster who commented on AT&T's remark regarding dropped calls.

It seems that is the norm for THEM. I've had just about every carrier out there including AT&T when they were Cingular a few years back. Only reason I change is because of specific phones that I want that Verizon doesn't/wouldn't carry. Every time, I run back to Verizon because of all the dropped calls and "can you hear me nows".

When the iPhone debuted, I so desperately wanted to give them another try, but resisted because of the poor service, not to mention limited hours of customer support (Verizon is 24 hours). In short, I just gave AT&T another shot as I received my 3GS on Saturday. Here we are two days later and I've had about 10 dropped calls, LOL! I've had zero in the 15 years I've been with Verizon. According to AT&T's geo-coder, I should have EXCELLENT coverage in my area.

Needless to say, I am kind of glad to see this thread, as I am hopeful this is not the norm (many have mentioned AT&T's improvement in reception since my last experience). I absolutely love my iPhone, and could live through the headache, I just hope they get better/this isn't the norm, because everyone in my immediate family are going to jump ship to AT&T after 15 years with Verizon (we had/have a family share plan) because of me and their fascination with the iPhone. Not to mention, we get a 20% discount on the monthly service and waived activation fees because my fiance' receives an accommodation through the hospital she is practices at.

I don't know if this is a coincidence or a pattern, but I just realized that my calls to landlines are the ones that tend to fail. Haven't had problems with mobile to mobile.

Dropped calls are the norm in San Francisco. But it's especially amusing when it happens to a sales rep in the AT&T corporate store

If the calls were just not going through, I think I could live with that. The problem is that the other party is getting all 3 calls, so I just come off like an idiot or an ass.

Ever since I switched over to AT&T from Verizon I have gotten dropped calls here and there. The problem has been punctuated since my girlfriend got an iPhone herself 6 months ago. The dropped calls now happen more frequently when we have lenghty phone conversations. So yes, it's been an ongoing problem.

I remember reading this somewhere, though I can't remember where and therefore can't comment on the validity, but I read that the number of dropped calls/poor service on the iPhone is directly related to the number of iPhones in a given area. Is that statement true? It would seem to make sense, given most dropped calls appear to occur in highly populated areas, i.e. San Francisco and New York; but that could also be due to the high number of AT&T subscribers overall.

it has been horrible for me since 3.1 (3.12), with about 60% of calls dropped in the Twin Cities, MN.
