IMO cellphone carriers in my mind should:
1. Not base specific plans off your phone, buy the phone you want and choose what you want not what AT&T is forcing you to do despite the cheapy flip phone having the ability to drop a data plan
2. All be GSM/UMTS so you can use practically any phone on the network you want.

Sadly that's not what makes money....also not trying and bite off more than you can chew cough* AT&T *cough

AT&T is a POS company who sadly only gets my money because of Apple's iPhone.

AT&T is simply difficult and expensive. Screw AT&T!

You don't really believe that do you?

AT&T is an amazing company with excellent customer service and very good 3G coverage in a lot of areas. And I'm pretty sure it was just as successful before it had the iPhone.

I'm sure right at this moment there is someone at Verizon, Sprint, or T-mobile that is pissed that they didn't get what they think they deserved too. So you go there, they'll come to AT&T.

As for being able to do deals and wave fees, most of that has been taken away, and they have special departments called "retentions" and they are really the only ones that can make deals and wave fees.
