AT&T Just Pushed This Long Time Apple To His Breaking Point!

First off, this post is not meant to be a so long thread. It's an "Enough is Enough" thread. This is was written in frustration to get my thoughts out.

Last year I had to say goodbye to my iPhone because of the constant monthly raping by AT&T. Sure, it's cool to have an iPhone if it's on an individual plan at $100 per month unlimited. However, business users that share minutes get raped by having to pay for expensive minutes, txt msgs, and individual data plans. WAY to damn expensive for the spotty service they provide.

I switched to Sprint last June and have enjoyed a good discount and superior service. Although, I still wanted my iPhone back and was hoping that by some miricle, AT&T would have a great plan that would bring me back onboard at WWDC. Looks like that will not happen.

Anyways back to the iPad 3greedy.

I purchased the iPad specifically for the unlimited data @ $30 per month pay as you go. I was convinced that Apple would have some sort of lock on AT&T stoping them from running their name through the mud. Unfortunately, I am now having flashbacks of the iPhone launch and the drastic price drops that screwed so many.

No, the price did not drop on the iPad, but the technical future of the iPad it's design to consume media, on the go, at a reasonable price is gone now for good. This is the reason I and so many others purchased the 3G version.

I do understand that some of you purchased it specifically for the GPS chip and are extremely happy. Even if I were in your position, I would be extremely concerned about this move and what issues it may cause as your habits change in the future.

I don't know what else to say. This is an extremely sad day for the iPad 3G. In addition, this also is a sad day for this Apple user that now refuses to purchase ANY device with AT&T involved.

I forgave Apple for the iPhone launch because it tried to make good on their marketing errors, but this move by AT&T had to have been planned and I am sure everyone involved knew it was coming.

Apple is not the company it was a few years back. I find it annoying that they are going to punish journalists for the iPhone leak, but they don't give a rats ass that AT&T just, once again screwed over all their loyal and happy customers. Seriously Apple, where are your priorities?

I'm sure everyone will have a field day with this thread and will try and convince me that it's my bad for trusting AT&T. But seriously, is this what we would have expected from Apple say 4-5 years ago?

I would have gone the T-Mo route a long time ago is I were able to get 3G and if their coverage in my area was good. T-Mo in Northern AZ is horrid!

In the end, it's $1 a day. That's less than a bottle of Poland Spring. Is there anything worth more than a constant internet connection with zero data limits for the same $1 a day?

Breakthrough deals should last more than 27 days. Apple, as the product manufacture, should have protected their customers better than this. Lord know that they cant do anything or talk about the exclusive they have with AT&T. However, its OK for Apple/AT&T to change the rules in a flash on their customers.

My iPad doesn't even have 3G and I am glad it doesn't, the iPad is too big to carry around everywhere anyway and WiFi is fine.

Get a MiFi or something if you must have data on the go. Screw AT&T, be glad you don't have to pay them money.

You are absulotly right happened to me went to a oversea trip bought 20mb data international plane came back and att add extra data so I will go over the limit. how do I know? I saw my daily useage its look like the same(almost) every day just the last day when I was back they add some extra data that att serive people could not give me strat unswer.
since that time I just dont trust tham I will take the unlimited datd for $30 before the 7th of this month and use it as much as I want

The iPad is not locked to AT&T but for all intents and purposes, it might as well be here in the United States. The 3G frequency spectrum built into the iPad is not compatible with T-Mobile, the other big GSM mobile service provider, and naturally Verizon and Sprint are out of the question using a different cell technology all together.

The iPad can be used freely with any SIM from any provider worldwide that supports 3G data on a device like the iPad, just pop in a new one and you're off to the races.

Are you trying to convince us that a "super user" like you would really turn the data subscription off some day? It seems unlikely.


This change will not effect you if you were going to spend $30/month anyway.

We all have disposable cash. That's the reason we bought this unnecessary toy, and those of us with 3G even more so. If all you are losing is the option to skip $30 in a given month well in the long run you really haven't lost much, although I DO understand the principle of your argument.

I'm going to bed now, so I'll just tell you why the elimination of the UDP is the best thing for the iPhone/iPad population at large:

The top 5% of the owners are using 90% of the data. It's slowing down the network for everyone else. Earlier tonight, someone posted a screencap of their monthly data usage and he had 5GB of downloaded data. 5GB. That's what you and I would use in a typical year.

Look at what AT&T did:

1. Raised the costs for the selfish over-users of data.

2. Lowered the costs for everyone else.

The complaints about AT&T's network speeds and connectivity are about to become a thing of the past. The jailbreakers and media-streamers are about to get what's coming to them. It's a glorious day.

I expected better if APPLE, but allowing themselves to be drug down to AT&Ts level just sucks. It was the theme of an email earlier today.

It's been a bad 2 weeks for me as an Apple owner, I'm not pleased with the level of customer service at all. I'm not expecting them at this point to make either incident right either, and that is sad. Heck, a token iTunes gift card would have helped me feel like they cared at all the repair on my MBP involved 1200 miles of driving and more than 30 hours..... But nope, I got my computer back filthy and need another oil change. My "not a mark on the case" according to the work order computer.
