Update

I called AT&T help. They were very pleasant and very helpful. They understood the situation as I explained it and the service was restored.

I guess every service provider will make mistakes: it's how you fix the mistakes that counts. The person I dealt with did fix it. And did so in a very friendly way.

Thanks for the responses and advice.

It's worth noting that this figure is for iPhone users. The iPad is a more of a media consumption device, than is the iPhone, which tends to mean more data is used.

As for the OP, call your card company and see if a charge was attempted.

Actually, the average data use for iPad 3G owners on the 2GB plan (includes those on unlimited) so far is under 500mb per month. It's edging up but won't likely ever approach 2GB monthly. I'm sure that info will be available publicly soon.

It happened to me last month, sort of.

I was out of the country and Citibank had put a security hold on my card because of some possible breach they had had. They had actually cancelled that card number and issued me a new one. I was completely unaware of this, as I was out of the country.

I get an e-mail from AT&T saying my payment didn't go through, so update my card info and choose a new plan. Well, I called them and told them I didn't want to choose a new plan. I liked my old plan. Well, it took about half an hour and being shuffled to the right person, but they did eventually fix the problem and put me back on my unlimited plan.

I called with a problem and in the end they resolved it. Can't ask for much more than that.

If it is already at 500mb, thinking use will increase 3x in the near future is really not THAT crazy. I am not sure how you can think the 2 gig limit is untouchable for the average user with more apps coming out which require more data
