That's the one I had. I got shadow glitches when I played Modern Warfare 2 in Windows Vista. I hope you have good luck with it. I returned mine.

Just a few minutes ago I got an EFI flash to work on it. I'm getting some screen flickering/ horizontal lines in OS X now, which I'm working on fixing.

If it doesn't work out, I'll just reflash with the original ROM and return it. I think it may just take a little more time to get working smoothly..

EDIT: After re-applying the 10.6.2 Combo update, and then re-doing the QE_CI patch, it now works perfectly as far as I can tell. Framerates are DOUBLE my GTX 285 for Mac in OS X.

So, in summary, this works:
Best Buy's XFX Radeon HD 4890 ZSFR V1.6 "Made in China" (all this info is available on the outside of the box) ~$200.00 USD
Flashed using the attached ROM. I had to do the flash in windows for some reason, but it may have been a glitch with my computer.. your mileage may very in succeeding to flash inside OS X using the ATI Flashing Tool. I also had to re-patch 10.6.2 using the Combo update, but again, your mileage may vary. If you have flickering horizontal lines, the re-patch of 10.6.2 will fix it.
Both the original and the EFI rom are included in my zip attachment.

Xfx- Hd- 489x - Zsfr Working

i got the XFX HD-489X-ZSFR from best buy and it works perfect. ran everything straight from the ati flashing tool. only issue was i got a kernal error while finishing the QE_CI but after reboot everything worked fine.

No dice for me so far with the XFX HD-489X-ZSFR v3.1 from Best Buy in a 1,1 Mac Pro.

ATI Flashing Tool on the Mac side claims success (in about 3 seconds) in flashing with robmac's ROM, but the ROM isn't changing. QE_CI install causes a kernel panic, and I actually had to reload the 10.6.2 combo update to stop kernel panics on reboot.

I then tried to pop the card into a PC and flash with the ATI command line tool. Robmac's ROM then seemed to "stick". The QE_CI install worked successfully with this ROM. On reboot, the XFX card becomes my primary display. However, after a couple of minutes of use I get lots of horizontal lines and other artifacts, and then the display stops responding. Time to experiment with building a ROM...

Aller did you try any of the other ROM's posted for that card that are supposed to work?

original ati 4890 card?

hello,

i have read every single post on this forum concerning the ati 4890 and i think i can make the firmware myself if the card works in the mac pro.

However its getting harder and harder to find an original brand model, since they all started making special OC, Vapor, whatever versions of the reference model.

I have seen a few cards on sites like ebay that look like this and have no brand, besides AMD.

am i correct to think this will be the original reference model, and i should have no problem getting this to work?

thanks for any comments.

Just because the card looks like that doesn't mean it'll work. Not even variations of one card by the same company are guaranteed to work. However, if you dump your ROM and figure out how to write a new one – or kindly ask one of the people here who know how to write one (not me!) – you should be okay.

Does any one have succesfully flashed the XFX HD-489X-ZSFC v3.1 card?
In the chart I found a ZSFR version and it was flashed with the rom13 file. Can this version be used with the ZSFC card?

I've scrolled through tons of threads, but was unable to find anything yet.

Someone?
