ATI radeon 5770 doesn't work in MacPro 2009

Strange. I have the same problem. I have a Mac Pro octo-core 2009, Mac OS X 10.6.6. Sometimes fans (pci expansion bay, whatever) keep blowing full tilt after booting. Only thing that helps, is yet another restart. Then they become quiet soon after login.
