I placed my order on Friday. When I checked the order status on saturday it said backordered. I was afraid of waiting weeks for it so i stopped by an apple store and was able to pick one up. They had lots of them. I then went to at&t to cancel my direct fulfillment order but they wouldnt let me.

I checked my order status today and it shipped yesterday and it will arrive thursday. So i now have 2 8gb phones. I'm probably just going to return the i ordered from at&t to the store i ordered it from.

I'm in a similar boat but luckily mine has not shipped yet. I don't get it -- how can they possibly not cancel? They have the order number, they have an order status page I can check online... what's the problem?

They told me I would either have to refuse shipment or return it to the AT&T Store location where I ordered it...slight problem since I was 1500 miles away from home on Friday. They told me the best thing would be to call the AT&T store I bought it from and try to cancel from there. Yeesh.

So, I tried calling the store. I can't cancel the order, apparently. How in the world is this possible? The order has not been shipped, it's backordered, how can I not modify a thing about it? How do you have a company as big as AT&T that cannot cancel or modify an order. Seriously. What...the...heck.

iPhone Arrives July 5th, 2007!

I live in the Los Angeles area and ordered my phone at an AT&T store on Friday, June 29th. They told me the phone would arrive at my house on either Tuesday or Thursday. When I checked the status of my order tonight, it says my order has been shipped via FedEx. My phone is scheduled to be delivered on July 5th, dam July 4th!

Hope this message provides some hope to all who ordered their iPhone at an AT&T store.

accessories

Hey everyone. With some people getting charged for accessories they didn't order, I'm a bit concerned. On my order status page, it lists "Item 1: Bag; Item 2: Handset." Does everyone have this "bag" on their pages? Or is it something that I'm going to get charged for? Thanks!

We all have "Bag" on our orders. That's the one thing that's in stock!!

Still no phone

Hi Everyone,
Well maybe some good news for you all. I also ordered direct fulfillment on the opening day, because they ran out of the 8gb model like 2 people in front of me. I then found them at the Apple Store by where I live the next day, and when I tried to cancel (like they told me I could) they said they couldn't.

I ended up on the phone with them for about an hour and a half, and Finally figured out a way to have it cancelled. The last lady that I talked to said she could put a note on my account, and tell them not to ship the phone out with the others. Now I don't know if this will work but she assured me it would.

As far as the money, what they did to my card, and I would guess to yours as well is a Pre-Authorization. They don't actually charge the card, but just make sure that the amount of money that the will require when they ship the phones is available. The problem is that it leaves you with no way to spend the money! What I did is go to my bank, and tell them that I cancelled my order, and asked them to release the funds. They did, and told me that if AT&T tries to take the money (they said I should see it on the day that they try and take it out) that if I go down to the bank within that day, I can have them put an unauthorized transaction on it which will prevent them from taking the money out, and also effectively cancel the order.

It's a lot of monkey work, but I think if the first way doesn't work, the second one should...

I also have reason to believe that the Apple Store's will have more in stock shortly, and I for one thought it a much better experience like always to buy my product through them.

(wow my fingers hurt!)

Just checked order status and it says my phone shipped via fedex today (7/4). Weird cause I didn't think anyone was open today. Anyway, order # was 57xxx and I ordered 6/30.

Shipped overnight!

Thursday I went into the AT&T store to see what they could do, which was nothing except refuse the delivery whenever it finally came, so decided to wait it out. We went out of town overnight. That night the status shows shipped and upgraded to overnight delivery! Great, but I wasn't going to be there because I figured I had a few days since I had elected ground shipping. I managed to get my brother to go wait for it, and it arrived by 11 am.

On our way back, we picked up a Sony Ericsson W810i for my wife and set up a family account to which I was able to add the iPhone to with no problems when we got home.
