Yeah, I have a high end 2011 27" and have the same problem under ML. I'll be painting on something in Photoshop (CS6) and listening to music, and it'll start. It's painfully obvious when running long strokes, as I do the stroke the audio on my iMac will skip and crackle, and I've noticed when I let the music stop, it'll actually produce a crackling sound in the silence.

Only "solution" at the moment is, I'll have to quit PS and iTunes, then reopen. This fixes it for about 45 minutes, then the skips and crackle returns. What's really fun, if I ignore it long enough, I'll get a wicked lag in the entire system, to the point that I can type an entire Twitter post before it even begins showing up in the text box.

I thought it was the ram, but since it started, I upgraded the 16 GB it came with to 32GB, still having issues.

Same problem here !

Hi,

I have a Imac 27, I7, 16g ram, 2011

This problem did not started with Mountain Lion over here ! In fact it started when i unistalled «Boom» a sound booster for mac !

I uninstal it because my mac was not going in sleep mode anymore, and the consequence of that action was those flickering and stopping in music listening and video streaming….

When boom is instal, my sound is fine but the mac don't sleep… :(

Multiple os reinstall did not fix the sound issue, this is pretty bad, like if the firmware of the sound card as been affected by the «boom» software

Thanks All
