Mus have only just changed cause I checked it 15 mins ago and it was still "Prepared for Shipment".

Shipped on: Feb 4, 2008 via TNT INTERNATIONAL EXPRESS - AP

Does your delivery date change to the 7th, also?
Just interested, because 3 days seems mighty fast!

A curse on you all!

(Unless, of course, mine ships between the 8th and the 11th... In which case my insane jealousy will be eased...)

My sympathies, Andyokay....

Looks like Apple has finally debited my account (unless "the Mob" has taken revenge by hacking into my bank account :O ), but the status is still displayed as "Not Yet Shipped". I thought Apple only debited the account once the order had shipped. Hmmm. And STILL I play the waiting game. :(

Anyways, a curse* on you all (excl. Andyokay)

*Disclaimer: Not a real curse.

By the way...

Sorry, I haven't been following this thread as closely as I should, but I just have a small query.

Has anybody's shipping date been shifted to a date EARLIER than originally estimated by Apple when ordering the MBA?

Sure thing.
Davricho, Pjmckay and Istoll have had their MBA's shipped earlier than the Apple estimates.

They haven't received them yet, but both the shipment and delivery dates shifted earlier - around three days earlier. This has been common for MBA orders in other countries also.

Fingers crossed the same thing happens for the rest of us that didn't order so close to the keynote!

No further updates from TNT yet other than below, but on some other forums people have confirmation that some are in Australia possibly to be delivered tomorrow!

Thanks, andyokay.

Well, I ordered mine on the 17th, so only a day or so after the Keynote (I coulda jumped in and ordered it in the wee small hours of the morning, after watching it live on this website here, but needed time to mull it over...I might be on the whole quite careless with my money, but this was a relatively big investment). Hopefully I'll get my shipment/delivery bumped forward as well. It's been customised slightly (1.8 processor, standard 80 harddisk), so that might factor into slowing the ship/deliv.

Ultimately, I guess I only really need it in time for uni (3rd March)...but since I'm making "the switch" I'd love a few weeks just to play around and become accustomed to Mac OS X amongst other things.

Only time will tell. :)

Yo Istoll, has your MBA shipped yet?
I ask because I ordered the same config (1.8/80GB), though a couple of days after you.

All curses officially revoked.

Early this morning (while I was dreaming of thin, lightweight, aluminum thoughts) got an email - MBA has been shipped!

(Shipped 5/02, Delivers by 11/02)

That was following an original Apple estimate of Ship on 12/02, and deliver by 18/02 (I ordered on the 21st - 1.8 gHZ with 80 GB HDD).

SAH-WEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

Though, tracking website shows:

consignment reference dest pick up date status
535742435 Not Found

Which is worrying...
Also, for those wondering, I didn't get a "prepared for shipment" notification yesterday.
Thoughts?

Yeah, the tracking website didn't show anything for me until the day after I got the shipment notification.

Yup sure has!

05 Feb 2008 20:32 Shanghai Shipped From Originating Depot

So its somewhere in between China and Australia at the moment. I'm hoping for it to arrive in my hands at about 8.30am tomorrow. (I work in Ultimo, which is a few suburbs from the TNT depot at Sydney Airport where pretty much everything arrives - so I skip the extra day of getting it around Australia).

There will be blood

Hmm, sounds like most of you lucky bums have your laptops either delivered or on their way...

Meanwhile, nothing different from Apple for me ("not yet shipped"), even though I ordered it earlier than some of you (17th Jan) and they've taken the cash outta my account. Wonder what the mofos are waiting for...

My 1.8/64SSD arrived Friday morning (8/2/08). Ordered it right after keynote.

Beautiful machine but have noticed drive capacity is shown as 55.58GB which after you take-out about 20GB for OSX and base installed items doesnt leave a whole lot of room.

Hopefully the Est. Delivery Date is accurate.

Arrived this morning (ordered 21st January) 1.8/80GB.

Oh. My. Gawwwwwwww.

So thin. Words. Fail. Explain.

All doubts I had about this comp are immediately gone. You just don't expect it to be this thin and light. It certainly feels about three times lighter than a Macbook; despite what the numbers are. It's like when I got my nano just after it came out. I kept forgetting how thin it was.

I just hope I don't run into battery issues (which are less common than they appear on the forum, I'm guessing. So far seems fine).

1.8 seems very speedy - there was WAY too much whining about how "slow" the Air is. Lots of Safari windows, about five large bitorrent files downloading, a streaming divx movie and high speed file transfer (importing music/pics/files etc) were all going at once, with no lag. Expose and Spaces worked smoothly as ever.

Note to those expecting: don't worry about the speed of the MBA. The fears of others are irrational. This thing runs GREAT.

Will post pics/videos later, though I think there are plenty up for people to see already :)

Still waiting on mine! How are you guys enjoying your MBA's?

DeanCorp

Hmm, my initial response was one of a little deflation, actually. Don't get me wrong, I really am enjoying my new MBA (and it represents my long-delayed switch to Mac after years of PC hell...), it's just that I think reading so much hype and awe about it on the web (eg. this forum!) created pretty big expectations and fears.

In the end, the expectations fell kinda flat. The laptop itself isn't as thin as I thought, nor as light in terms of weight. The screen is bigger than I'm accustomed to, and I love the glossy display. Sometimes the laptop itself feels a bit too fiddly for my liking... I'm a tidiness freak, and am anally careful with delicate things, so this laptop has me paranoid every time I pick it up. Still, you mightn't be like me in this respect, so it shouldn't be a problem for you.

In terms of fears, these were SO overrated. You probably know about people kicking up a fuss about fan-noise, heat and even the wobbly feet of the laptop. The fan is really quiet, and only gets excited if there's a lot of action going on (as with ANY computer), the heat is nothing compared to my older laptop (a crusty old Toshiba) and the wobbly feet...well, it really comes down to the table, since on the desk in my bedroom the front left foot isn't completely flat on the table, and even then I only notice it if I push down on that part of the laptop. Whereas, I took the MBA to work to show the colleagues (hey, this thing just begs to be flaunted!) and placing it on a glass-top table didn't cause any wobbles.

So, prepare to maybe feel a bit "meh" about the MBA when you receive it. But also prepare to be surprised, since it's really a nice little piece of engineering, looks snazzy, and operates relatively fast if your needs are simple. As a university student, it works wonders for me.

Let us know your impressions when you receive yours!

my response to seeing one in an apple store was the same as yours. Its not *that* thin or *that* light. Perhaps its because I've never owned a macbook or MBP. so in the store I was comparign both to my ancient dell behemoth so both seemed light and thin? Maybe for existing macbook owners the difference is more apparant?

still, its sitting here on my desk having just been updated to 10.5.2, and its a very very nice machine. I justneed it for basic stuff and so why not have it as light and thin as possible? plus i spent about 30 minutes in theapple store just browsing the web, and the gestures alone makes this worth it to me.

I get mine tomorrow!

Can't wait.

Should I buy a superdrive? Or just use Remote disk?

Cheers!
