I'm switching to the iphone after using windows mobile phones for about 4-5 years. my favorite feature on windows mobile is putting my schedule into the calendar and having it switch to vibrate anytime i'm in class. no more embarrassing interruptions. Does the iphone have a feature like this or is there any app that can do this?

Silent ringer switch dude. Don't tell me that's too much work. You want the device to feed you too? 
WTF....just put it on silent when you walk into your lesson and take it off silent when you finish the lesson.
I guess you want an app that will automatically wake you up in the morning and physically get you out of bed aswell, yes?

instead of starting another thread i might as well ask this here. do you guys know if there is a way that i can get the iphone to get up 10 minutes before my alarm goes off and prepare my breakfast for me? please tell me theres at least an app that can do this
Cut the kid some slack (dont care how old you are, if you have classes you're a kid, yes even 20ish collage/uni students) maybe he didn't know that the iPhone has to be the easiest phone in existance ever to put onto silent. Perhaps he has never used one and knows not of the convienince, nae, existance of the physical switch on the side of the thing that is so easy to use you can even flip it through the material of your pockets, yes even heavy denim pockets.
It's so he doesn't forget to put it on silent. It has nothing to do with how easy it is. Don't tell me you guys have never had your phone ring in a situation where it shouldn't have.
Its not a bad feature request, something like nokia audio profiles that you can schedule. I believe the G1 has an app that changes your audio profie based on location. Get within 500m of work etc and your phone automatically changes to a non offensive ringtone/wallpaper etc.
Yeah, I don't think the OP here needed a bashing. However, there was someone last year who asked this same question who did deserve it, after he went on a tirade about how insanely stupid it was that this feature was not added because every other phone had it. Which I doubt.
This guy simply asked the question, so I think a simple "here's how it works" would suffice.

But to the OP, sadly that feature does not exist. Although to my mind it makes sense to have it (except for the fact that there is a physical switch, so that complicates any automated processes quite a bit).
Ignore everybody else... not only is that a cool feature, it makes sense for a LOT of people. I would definitely use that.
I tend to put mine on vibrate all day anyway, just because I'm at work and I think it's polite. But I remember in college constantly switching my phone to and from vibrate.
The only time a phone ever rang in class was when I found a phone lying on the ground, and I had picked it up in the morning and put it in my jacket pocket -- totally forgot about until later that afternoon when it started ringing. It was the owner calling to see if anybody had picked up their phone.
Anyway, the ring tone was obviously different from mine, and since it was in my jacket pocket, it took me about 5 full seconds to realize what was happening. Meanwhile, the entire class and prof had stopped and were looking around the room trying to figure out who the jerk was. Oops.
Not sure why there's so much bashing, but I'm also switching from a windows mobile phone to an iphone this christmas and just to clarify something, us poor windows mobile people don't have an easy switch to flip. I have to turn on the phone, unlock it, click the little ringer icon, click silent, click somewhere else on the screen, click lock, and then turn it off again and put it in my pocket.
But I think the OP's main thing here is convenience. When I walk into class with my friends and we're talking and being typical college kids I sure as hell don't constantly think "is my phone on vibrate?".
Let me tell you a little embarrassing story. I was in a class full of 90% females and the topic was female rights (blowoff class folks plus there were some pretty cute girls in there so i couldnt complain, we all take them) and my phone rang one morning and the ringer was "back that ass up". You can probably guess I had to drop that class after that.

OP, I think its a great idea, and something that would be very handy. I already set my calendar up to keep track of meetings at work and classes, so an extra setting wouldn't be out of my way at all.
An off topic question for millar876: What about professionals going back to get their MBA? Or people in tech fields who are constantly taking classes to keep up with changing technology? I fit into that second category, and if that makes me a kid, then I don't ever want to grow up.

I couldn't believe it when I read it myself LOL
It honestly takes 1 second to flip the silent switch next to the volume. I have even had to do it during meeting when my phone would ring. So quick to shut it off no one ever noticed.
Bottom line is it IS a cool feature. I mean as iPhone users ...we do without so many cool features anyway, so I guess it's really no big deal to do without this one, too.
