Uh, because if I played all the music and movies I enjoy at work I'd get fired.

What's your job? Ditch-digging? Because other than that I can't believe the same thing doesn't apply to you.

I'm a student at a Christian school. My music is all secular, but would not offend anyone there (Barenaked Ladies is a far less raunchy band than their name suggests).

If you have a job that is in opposition to your tastes, perhaps work for someone else?

That's funny, BNL is one of my favorite bands as well. Their song called "A" is one of my favorites.

If I were to play it at work, however, the line about getting an erection and then showing affection would likely get me reported to HR.

I encourage you to find a job after you graduate that does not have sexual harrasment policies as part of their workplace, but I'm telling you right now that it's not going to be as easy as you think.

EDIT: This is all moot for me since I don't use music as ringtones. But my point is that if I were to do so, it's likely I would have some favorites that would not be appropriate for all situations. In my case, I just wouldn't use them, but I can certainly understand how or why other people might.

That looks good on paper, but it's not always possible - especially in today's economy. With my BlackBerry I had a profile for "in the office" and another for when I wasn't. It was so cool to be able to very easily switch all my ringtones, email, text, MMS text notifications, etc. just by changing my profile. Oh well ...just another in a long list of great features I will have to learn to live without :(

Wow, some of you guys are complete asses. The guy asked a simple, honest question for crying out loud. Its not his fault that windows moblie has that feature and the iphone doesnt.

I use that feature on my phone. I work at a dinner theatre and when the show is going on i like my phone to switch itself to vibe, which is really convenient. If i bought an iphone it wouldnt take much effort to hit the switch, but since im so used to my phone doing it for me im sure i would forget a few times before i got used to it.

Which part? Considering female rights a "blowoff"?

Well, considering ratemyprofessor.com had a boatload of reviews claiming it was an easy A, and a few of my friends had taken it... Seemed very easy to consider it a blowoff class. Who are you to call me a liar anyways unless you've taken the same professor.

So much for me giving a legitimate example.

Once again I'm sure many people are reminded why they lurk these forums rather than participate.

Why should you have to pretend to be two different people for others to like you?

exactly. i dont want to have boring a$$ ringtones on my phone but need to when im at work....you know a professional setting that pays me to feed/shelter/etc ya know?

cant get my ringtone silent

I have tried everything under settings, sounds to get my ringer to be silent, but to no avail. Also I am confused why there is a Silent option and below it a Ring option. My ringer still comes on no matter what I do.

Thank you:(

Wow....its more work to set the schedule up to place the phone on vibrate than it is to slide the switch.

It is actually kind of a neat feature -- the BB OS also has a bunch of little features like this. I think it's one of those things where, once you set it up, it's not bad at all -- you just add new appointments to your calendar, and they affect the way the phone behaves.

It's tied in part though to the fact that the idea of calendar appointment status (free, busy, out of the office, etc) in Outlook is a much more commonly used feature -- especially in corporate environments where other people read your calendar -- than it is in iCal.

It's not that cumbersome, but it is messy on a HIG level, and so I would be shocked if Apple ever implemented it.

EDIT: Actually, the BB one that I think is particularly well thought-out is that it uses the light sensor to detect if the BB is in a pocket or out in the open, and you can configure it to behave differently when it's in your pocket than when its sitting on your desk (e.g. turning off the vibrate and going audible on the desk, so it doesn't chatter across the desk, and turning the vibrating alert back on in your pocket).

i have to agree for someone who is on a rutine schedual say like business men who dont wasnt to always flick the switch having an application that automaticaly engaes/disengaes silent mode at set scheduals, is a great idea to manualy disengage silent flick the switch to silent then back would bypass the program and the program would simply wait for the next time its been programed to turn silent mode on.
