With the hype surrounding the Ipad is it likely to find one at launch? Planning to pre-order the Wifi version when it becomes available. I didn't get into the Iphone at launch so I have nothing to compare it too.

I don't want to pre-order then it ship 45 days after it "launches"

I picked up a Mac Mini on "Day One" but there was none of the hype around the Mini that there is around the iPad. I will go to apple.com around launch time and try to submit an order. If it lets me and says estimated shipping within 1-2 weeks I'll submit the order. Otherwise I'll wait for things to die down a bit. I try not to do "pre orders". I have no desire to make Apple a no interest loan with no exact promise date for when I get my stuff, or even if they don't charge my card right away I have no desire to have a large charge simply "show up" when they get around to shipping. I want to know where my money and my stuff is at all times.

Apple does not charge your CC until your item ships so when you pre-order you are not giving them an interest-free loan, only getting in line. I always pre-order b/c I prefer virtual lines to real ones -- which cost me time. On stuff like this my experience is that Apple charges the CC the day before it ships and then ships it to arrive on launch day. Pretty good deal unless you like to immerse yourself in the live launch excitement.

I'm not sure if I'll go to my local apple store or just order it online. I suspect I'll do the latter.

Partly because I'll be holding out for the 3G model, so when the wifi ones hits the streets, I'll be waiting anyways.

I'm unsure as well, I plan on paying in cash for my iPad, so logically I will be going to my local apple story, which happens to be located in a mall, so I can't really wait outside of it over night if need be, I can wait outside of the mall, then when they open the doors, I can rush to sit in front of the actual store.

My other option is to just shove all of my cash into my girlfriends wallet and have her pay with her card, as she wants the good credit history anyway, but then I risk not having one on launch day, which I'd like to have.

Seeing as how I got an iPhone, iPhone 3G, and 3GS all on launch day, I doubt I will have a problem getting an iPad. :) I'll just wait on line before the store opens :).

I have to have it. Now would be nice, but alas, I have to wait till launch day :).

with 6 models, their will be more than enough. don't fret.

There will only be 3 models at the initial launch. The 3G models will be a month later.

I expect the 16GB and 64GB models to sell out the quickest, initially, because the people wowed by the $499 price will grab those and the people who need extra storage will go ahead and jump up to the 64GB. I'm figuring a 32GB is just about right for me, so I think it'll be easy to find, but I probably won't bother trying to find one on launch day. I'll either order online or wait until the stock is a bit more available.

Go to the bank, start a free checking account and get a debit card..

Seriously, it's 2010 and you want a Ipad but don't have a debit/credit card?!

What does someone think of the chances of some other retailer other than Apple having the iPad available at launch?

I don't have an Apple Store less than 2 hours away from me and I like to have in hand what I purchase, but I guess if they treat the iPad like they did Snow Leopard a preorder might mean the product on my doorstep on launch day. :D

I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon sells it. I really hope they do so I can take advantage of no sales tax plus free 2nd day shipping (Amazon Prime).

That's what I am thinking, except I'll suffer through the free standard non-Prime shipping. Unless I get some Apple gift cards between now and then, I suppose. I am also hoping to pay less, by a couple bucks anyways, for the accessories (aside from the tax free-ness).

Did the G4 Cube sell out on day one?

I don't know but I think based on the hype for this product and the market now I'd say things are very different from back then.

Apple products like the iPad have alot more appeal to traditional PC users now, so it won't just be us Macusers clamoring to get one.

I'm going to pre-order just incase but I will try to get the 64GB Wifi on release day. I'll be in Charlottesville, VA by then & will have to drive to Richmond for the nearest Apple Store I believe. I hope I can get what I want but if they are sold out, its cool. Atleast, I was able to do some grocery shopping while I was in Richmond.

Amazon and Walmart are going to carry it. My guess is best buy will too.
Amazon has a page up and someone on these forums works for walmart and state that they will be carrying them.

I think they will have them available in lots of places and with lots of inventory.

No more days of waiting 6-12 hours online for an iPhone original.

I still haven't decided if I will get one right away, but I seem to be leaning more that way all the time.

Good thing for me is I would get the 3G version so I have an extra month to see how the reviews are and whether I want to actually but it.

Unlike, say the iPhone or Touch I can't quite see what the 64GB version is for. I know there's plenty of you who will find a use for it but for me personally I wouldn't put my music on it because, well, that's what my Touch is for and I also think it's too big to act as a music player which leaves a lot of room for other things, movies and tv shows being the most likely but then that's what my Apple TV is for! :)

I think the 16GB version will probably suit me fine. Web browsing, ebooks, pdfs, podcasts, and of course, apps, and possibly the odd movie. Just hope I can get one on launch day.

Only 3 will be available on opening day. Plus, having 6 models doesn't have anything to do with stock other than it probably makes it more likely one version will get low in stock since they have to carry 3 versions (and 6 later on).
