That's why I don't post anonymously.

what do you mean? just because you use a true first and last name, you are still, essentially, posting ANONYMOUSLY. I've looked up my less-than-common first and last name (combination) and have found tons of people with the same name. ergo, my name, by itself, doesn't make me easily identifiable.

I googled "anthony moody". got 2.84 million hits. I doubt that all of them are about YOU. :)

iPadditude my @$$!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't see why I shouldn't have an iPadditude!?!

I mean I'm going to be one of the elite few who hold in my hands the very first of these new Apple tablets known as the iPad - - c'mon!!!

It is I who will feel the Internet coursing through my fingertips on the first properly scaled touchscreen combined with the first truly functional touch OS - - frankly, I don't see any glimpse of a way that I will be inferior to the rest of my species in those first glorious days of iPad ownership... I will be technological master of my domain!

Of course, it won't take long for a million others to join me - - and then 10 million - - and then 100 million... you know how it goes. It's an old story. The dawning of a new age of machine-human evolution. (One might even call it magical.)

So why in the name of Zeus would I not have a freakin' iPadditude?!?!?

(I tell ya - - kids nowadays...)

It's still very removed from what someone would say to your face or sitting at a table talking about any given topic vs the internet. Name alone doesn't change that fact.

That may be true for some but not for me.

2.84mm or not, I'm the "main" one who comes up first b/c that's my username/profile on the various FBs/LinkedIns of the world, much of which drive search results. I don't make myself difficult to find.

About preferences? No. You're wrong.

Tell me that I'm wrong when I say I prefer to have french fries dipped in mustard. That to me, french fries with mustard are the best. I love french fries with mustard.

You can't. You can only tell me you find that disgusting. Or that Ketchup is a more popular condiment, etc. You can't tell me my preference is wrong. Because it's MY preference. I own it.

Well, sure, if you want mustard on your french fries, all the power to you. However, the discussion of the iPad hasn't just been about whether we as individuals personally want / don't want the iPad. There has also been considerable discussion of whether or not it will succeed or be a failure. That is, we have been arguing about whether or not the new French Fries with MacMustard would be the next BigMac. Of course, we don't have the resources to do a scientific survey of people to see what percentage of MacDonalds customers would enjoy the French Fries with MacMustard. So our predictions here are just opinions. But that doesn't mean that all opinions on this are equal and there is no right or wrong, because once the French Fries with MacMustard go on sale, then one side or other will be proven "correct." You don't see the point in arguing over predictions of how well a product will do? Fine, stay out of the discussion. But some people enjoy predicting how things will turn out, and gloating when they are proven correct. That is also a personal preference, and while it might not make any sense to you why people bother indulging in such pasttimes, well, each to his own. You like mustard on your french fries, some people like making future predictions and arguing with each other over it. If it bothers you, don't read it -- let it go.

I think what samcraig was trying to say was:

French Fries with mustard = netbook (yuck)

French Fries with ketchup = iPad (yum)

he admitted netbooks suck but he likes them anyway.

I would agree with you as I don't recall any personal attacks from you towards members here on MR.

However that is not the norm and nothing like a discussion face to face. Totally different interaction. Which clearly leads to a large group of people that don't' care about the topic at hand, they will post anything to antagonize and derail the threads. Moderators simply can't keep up so they are left to do whatever they wish. This simply wouldn't happen in a face to face/live meeting. That person would be "removed" one way or another. Keep it up and someone would be getting their a$$ kicked, simple as that. No consequences on the web = a very different conversation.

most of these threads and conversations in question are nothing but huffing and puffing and trying to either a) convince someone of something they'll never be convinced of or b) trying to show another person you're smarter than they are.
Welcome to the internet! :p

The only thing that ticks me off is when folks compare netbooks/mid's to ipad.
Some of these folks never used a netbook. different strokes for different folks.

I like PC and Mac and they work together in harmony in my home/studio/lab.

Oh completely agreed - it's very much the norm on any anon or quasi-anon situation as on these boards and others. Using my real name keeps me honest, though generally speaking my approach is to only say/write what I would freely say/write in person.

so what's your address and phone number?? LOL! j/k

You know it's funny Dave - one of the reasons I make myself easy to find is because most people simply don't take the time to do so. And I use that as a sort of case in point in some of the classes I teach.

I'm in a business that naturally attracts a lot of people, many for the wrong reasons. As a consequence, the bar is actually quite low. SO I always counsel - Show up, do what's asked in a timely and professional manner, and you have the ability to go quite far. It's "easy" if you give it the effort.

I sometimes teach/guest lecture on my profession, and for every 100 kids in the crowd I guarantee to them that only 1 will actually take the time to contact me and ask me for a job, advice, etc. These are all kids in programs explicitly designed to get them into the industry. So they all say "No no no, no way, we're *all* going to call you."

And I say - okay you know my name. I'm easy to track down. And invariably it's 1/100 or less who actually do! Shocking.

/random aside

You know - that's very telling of the current generations - and not in a good way. There's a sense of entitlement. And I believe the other 99 students in the class that don't contact you have it in their heads that they'll just find a job. Or that someone is going to call them because they are so wonderful ;). In all seriousness though - I have had the same experience when I've guest lectured, taught, etc.

We live in an age where it's so easy to access information (that's both good and bad) and it's seems to be breeding "lazier" people. When I was a youth group advisor I had kids in the group complain that their teacher was making them find 5 internet sources for a paper he needed to write.

With how easy it is to access information because of the web - we (The US at least) still has a pretty poor academic track record, illiteracy level, etc.

But I digress too

sort of like a politician's promises. :) Big on talk, weak on execution. Part of the human condition. It's refreshing when I find someone who's word means something. I find reliability all too lacking in most people and immensely enjoy when I find someone that can be counted on to do what they said, when they said they would do it.

The thing that I have taken away from this thread today is that I really want some fries and mustard now! Thanks a lot! :)

fries with mustard? Never tried that combo! I seldom do ketchup on them, either, but I just bolused for my upcoming (not upchucking!) lunch. :)

how about with 1000 Island? (Mickey Dee's so called "secret sauce") all you need to go from ketchup and mayo, to 1000 Island, is adding mustard and relish.

I'm allergic to Mayo - so no go for me. And no one should interpret that to mean I'm allergic to the iPad. One makes me violently ill - the other I just prefer not to have at the moment....
