Backgrounder Update (Icon on Phone and Email)

I just installed the update for Backgrounder on 3.0 and it's supposed to re-enable support for the little indicators for apps running in the background.

My phone respringed and now I have the little icon telling me that my Phone and Email are running in the background. I checked the settings and see that Phone, Email, iPod and Safari are already set to be ignored. Anyone else have this problem?

I already tried switching them off, respringing, then on again and respringing. No good.

Got the update too and it's working wonderfully! I am pretty sure you can't do anything about the indicators for the default apps. Also, blacklisting a app tells Backgrounder to close it on exit and don't think it's a good idea for things like the phone and mail app.
 
If you go into sbsettings and check processes you can manually stop ipod, but I have tried and tried to stop 'phone' and 'mail'. It just doesn't work. It always comes back. It must have something to do with Apple's default settings and Backgrounder can't override it.

Exactly. The Phone and Mail are not meant to be closed. Trying to do so will only cause issues/crashes.
 
I am having the same issue with the Phone and Mail icon. I like the idea of the indicator telling you which App is running in background - but it shouldn't for the Default Apps which always run in the background.

I agree: No good!
 
I installed the app for previous versions that "hides" the icon until an update to toggle these off through backgrounder becomes available. I would assume that if the hide app works, that the custom badge apps would work as well.

If you search Cydia for "backgrounder" you'll get a hits on the search. I installed "clear backgrounder badge" to hide the little gear icon...

I'd rather have no badges at all then having those badges on those icons at all times.
 
I just wish we'd finally get an SBSettings toggle that way we can slide open the menu and see "Backgrounder on/off". The icons are all fine and dandy, except if you can't remember if backgrounding is enabled or disabled they do you no good, as you have to return to the springboard to check the icons, meaning you still exit the app to do so. It's a GREAT app, prolly my most used one, but of all the things we have SBS toggles for, this should be at the top of the list.

That already exists. Click Processes in SBSettings and it will tell you all the apps that are currently running. Now what I want to see is the ability to click the app in the process and it automatically closes the one your in and it takes you to that one.
 
There SHOULD be a setting in the backgrounder app to turn off badges. Im not sure if its still there, but it was in 2.2.1.
 
i just checked the settings in backgrounder and there is a setting to switch the badges off.
 
I don't remember the badges coming on Phone email and such on 2.x.

Also, Backgrounder had them blacklisted by default for me. Even so the icons come up.

I don't think blacklisting them is bad either. It only tells backgrounder not to run them in the background. The iPhone backgrounds them as it is. In fact, having backgrounder do it keeps the GUI loaded in the background as well when I don't think the iPhone does that by default.

I would like to see what apps are backgrounded, but I don't want to have to see the icon on Phone, Email, Safari and iPod all the time.
 
Removing the Badge icon from Running Apps

I saw the same icon after updating Backgrounder and discovered how to turn it off.

You need to go into the Backgrounder App icon from the springboard screen and click on Global under Preferences. Turn the Badge switch to Off. This should do the trick of removing the small icon below the apps that are running.

I know about that, but it's still not what I mean. If I look at processes whatever app I'm in when I look will be there, that doesn't necessarily tell me if backgrounding is enabled or not, it just shows the app I'm in is running, which is obvious. I want a "Backgrounder" toggle to go along with the 3G, Wi-Fi, Insomnia, Safari DL, UA Faker, etc ones. Just a simple "on/off" toggle.
 
Is anyone getting really bad battery life after this update? I don't have any processes actually backgrounded, but my battery seems went from 60% to 20% in a matter of 20 minutes.

I've had it since this morning and having noticed any difference in my battery.
 
maybe coincidence then, but I think my battery is shot. I was able to just sit at the spring board and watch it drain from 20% to the point of turning off within a matter of minutes.

Wow that is definitely not normal. Did you install any other programs today or maybe last night?
