My wife and I already have separate user accounts on a 2020 Intel iMac but she has bought a Neo for use away from the study. It has been set up with the same Apple id as her user account on the iMac. We already back up the iMac to 2 external hard drives alternately with Time Machine, and much is in iCloud. As the NEO is only used for emails, browsing and shopping and all these activities are synched with her account on the iMac, is there any need to back up the NEO separately? Any advice very welcome - thanks.

No, there's no need to do backups at all. If the device grows in purpose through its lifetime, that may change - but for emails, browsing, shopping - you're good.

The only reason to back up the Neo would be to save preferences and settings. As long as she never stores her data in the Neo, that would be the only reason to back it up.

But on the other hand, adding a Time Machine backup would be very easy and not cost anything. You could simply share a very small drive (actually a folder on some other drive) over the WiFi for the Neo to use as a Time Machine drive.

School me lol -- What is a Time Machine backup?
