and yet I am typing with it on my iMac right now.

The Brydge is a bluetooth keyboard. Really, they pair with Macs. Same as iMac wireless keyboards can be used with iOS.

I gave links in my first reply. Black backlit keyboards with number pads for the iMac are readily available.

The only issue is that the F3/4/5/6 keys will have to be remapped if System Preferences if you want to change to the current iMac keyboard.

ah, good to know (about the brydge); and, again, i don't want a number pad (or mechanical keys). anyway, pretty sure i'll just got for the logitech...

MIKE, QUICK QUESTION: you're using the 9.7 model? and where do you keep the hinges? below? or flat out of the back?

You'll see indentations in the top. The hinges fold down into these but they're not flush. I can take a couple of pictures of my spare for you and post if you want.

By spare: Actually, I own two of these but the first generation of these keyboards (no longer available) had a few problems that weren't solved till the second gen. Anyway, it's in a drawer in my office and easy to access if you like.

sure! i am now considering it; half the cost of the logitech, & newer tech/design...

This is silver; the one on my 12.9" Pro is Space Grey. Although the keyboard and battery life are much better on the 2nd gen (enough to justify buying another), the overall appearance is identical.

The image with the tabs tucked down was taken at an angle so that you could get a better view.

Here you go.

No I want the one that comes with the iMac Pro to be backlit.

hmmm. thank u! think i'm gonna just do the logitech after all (i have a music keyboard just above my mac keyboard, so need something shallower). but that's pretty cool.

add a trackpad, and the brydge would be perfect...

EDIT: ordered the logitech, found a new one on ebay, $150 (better than $193 on amazon). done! will report back after i use it a bit. old tech, sigh. next up: apple hockey puck mouse, then an apple II... :D

Yea, no kidding.

Among the rumored features of iOS 13 is mouse support for the iPad. If that becomes a reality, I bet that Brydge will add a trackpad in later versions. I'll preorder that the second it's announced.

It occurs to me that the hinges are probably removable. It takes a Torx T4 driver to find out and I have both the driver and a spare keyboard. Now to make the time and go exploring...

Me too though I don't really need one with the lighting in my office. I'll use that skin I linked to earlier and see how well it works for me.

If Brydge can get such great battery life out of their backlit keyboard, no reason that Apple can't build a great one, too.

I like keeping the lights low in my studio at home and office at work. I’ve always been kinda sensitive to overhead lighting, especially like the fluorescent garbage at work. I also don’t like display glare.

i work a lot at night, and the only light is from the imac (and my macbook). i don't do much typing then, but still wish i could see the keys. amazing to me that apple hasn't (yet) addressed this. i'd love having a macbook keyboard (or just the magic keyboard) with backlit keys....

got the logitech today; not crazy about it (it LOOKS like it's from 2013 lol). the action is decent (not great, but better than the tecknet); the spacing of the keys... will have to adapt (am used to the 12" macbook, and 13" macbook pro).

the software options don't seem to work on mojave ('show battery indicator onscreen", "show caps lock onscreen").

it is NOT the magic keyboard. but the backlight is GREAT, bright. and the keyboard is responsive. will enjoy it (UNTIL apple finally moves into the 21st century, and makes a backlit keyboard). thanx all for opinions, suggestions, etc.

EDIT: and the backlight failed, within a day :( so, returning it, and will live with the tecknet. aargh!

just found this:
https://smile.amazon.com/MultiSync-...01MZ2TKIR/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

did not see that before (i usually keep my searches on amazon to '4 stars & up'). and surprised no one here mentioned it. ars technica has an article today (17 may) about wireless keyboards, and this is their fave.

one concern: the FN & control keys are swapped on the left. ugh. but may buy this (infinitely cheaper than the logitech), and will report back if.

got the kanex today; the backlight (at "full" brightness) is barely there, but..just enough i guess. altho... seems it just stays on (all the other backlit keyboards i've tried go dim after 10 seconds or so, light up again when you hit a key)...

maybe this is better, BUT... the light stays on (apparently) even after sleeping the imac. so... i have to get used to disabling the light, THEN putting my mac to sleep.

that, and the unfortunate FN & control key swap.

there IS no perfect backlit keyboard for the mac... yet....

Wrestling with this dilemma myself. Opted for the basic Magic Keyboard while I figure it out. Have the Logitech G910 which I love, but it's huge (and purchased for my gaming PC).

what i really want: a space grey magic keyboard with a backlight. if apple can make backlit keyboards in their macbooks, it goes to follow that..................................
